Running a dairy but expecting to make your profits on just the cream is a bit unrealistic.

CSB:  I wanted a stationary bike, but am unwilling to pay retail.  I watched Craigslist, and sure enough, I saw one at a garage sale a few miles away.  I went, bought a couple of DVDs, and asked her, "How much for the NordicTrac?"
Her: "The what?"
Me: "The exercise thing."
Her: "I don't know.  Make me an offer."  She said it like she wanted it gone.
Me:  "I don't even know what a fair price would be."
Her: "Twenty-five bucks?" (Pleadingly)
Me:  "How about forty?"
I gave her two twenties.  She was happy, and her family helped put in my truck.

/I hardly use it, but it was cheap.

McKinsey isn't going to tell you anything you don't already know, or at least strongly suspect.

You hire them to provide cover when you go to the shareholders and the board of directors to explain how you're going to fix all the mistakes you've been making for the last several years.

They're just now realizing that the market for their product is, uh, limited?
Shall we diversify, or create a downmarket version of things?
Nah, let's just close stores and let people go

What ever happened to SoloFlex? I had one of those things decades ago when they were all the rage. Sold it to my boss at the time. I think he hung clothes on it after owning for about a month.

I bought stock in Peloton.  I has tanked (obviously).  I also own their bike and I really enjoy their product.  Fire anyone you want except Jess King, Olivia Omato and Hannah Corbin.  Other than that, let Operation Clean House commerce.

Those looked really complicated and huge.

I have an old Vision Fitness exercise bike I bought 15 years ago for about $75.  I ride it semi-daily for the 3 months of winter.  It is lowend'ish and meets my needs.  I don't know why someone would spend a couple thousand for an exercise bike.

I bought it when it was still about ten bucks cheaper than I last saw. Sold most of it at 120. I think they'll eventually be ok, but the pandemic warped things and they didn't notice. The treadmill safety issue has f**ked with them as well. We'll see if they survive or are bought by someone else.

I use my treadmill regularly, but especially in the winter. I have to exercise or I get fat in nothing flat. The problem being my job has me sitting on my arse all day. So I need to walk (I can't run) for at least an hour a day. I'm actually on my second treadmill at the main house.

/yes, I literally wore out a treadmill

I was part of the first mass layoff in my department brought about by said RTS.

Any Peleton employees reading this: update your resumes and start reaching out to your network contacts now, no matter how safe you think you are.

You ever tried bicycling outside?  In the summer?  In Florida?  F*ck that. Between the heat and the mosquitoes, I'll just stay inside and enjoy my Peloton bike coontil the company goes belly-up. Then I'll just get fat again)

You don't need a Peleton bike to use the company's exercise program. That's a separate monthly fee.

My outdoor cycling habit is many, many times more expensive than my Peloton.

Also, they fit differently into my programming - indoors for structure, outdoors for skill (and fun).  Doing a structured workout outdoors is difficult, particularly if you live where there's hills.  And trainers have their own set of issues, like my wife murdering me if tried to drag a bike up and down the stairs multiple times per week.

That's really a big lie.  There's really no such thing, as if it were simply a season, with expected seasonal change, as a "business cycle" cycle.  Some people will try to sell you on the idea that there are cycles of business cycles, and if you're in the stationary cycle business, does the fact that your product is stationary negate the expected movement one would expect from a cycle?

Also video gaming while biking is a thing I like to do.

I don't care for the group exercise thing pelaton sells, but I see no reason to get upset at them for selling it nor others for buying it.

People are so weird about others not liking what they like.

A friend who owns a spin gym rented us one of her stationary bikes for much of the pandemic (we returned it this summer). Might have been cheaper to actually buy a Peloton model, but this one was a commercial unit that works with the Peloton app (which is cheaper if you DON'T use it with a Peloton bike, btw).
Long story short, there's actually a good amount of quality exercise routines on the app. Nothing you couldn't find elsewhere, but it's definitely convenient so there's no excuse to get frustrated looking for the perfect workout, right down to being able to adjust the volume of the instructor's voice).

/It literally snowed a foot here in the last 16 hours, so outdoor riding isn't as much fun as it sounds
//I still do a winter run club. It was almost -45*c (WC) during a run last week

Chief Financial Officer Jill Woodworth had said in early November that the company was looking to lower costs as the pace of revenue growth and new subscriptions slowed.
At the end of this month, Peloton will tack on fees for delivery and assembly of its Bike and Tread products, citing historic levels of inflation and heightened supply chain costs.

Revenue growth and new subscriptions are down, lets make it more expensive, that will fix the problem...

If they lowered the price of the bike, I would consider buying one, but at $2500 + a $40 a month subscription?  fark you.

My wife is strongly considering a Myx bike, a Peloton competitor. They got bought by BeachBody last year (or year before?) and seem to have some nice options. If you stay away from the pyramid scheme that is their coach program, their other products are great. The annual subscription is a pretty good deal, if you stick with it.

The hype and overvaluation of an exercise bike is almost an nft in and of itself.

I bought a bike stand from Amazon, for $35 that lets me pedal in place, and I parked it from of a tv.  It does the same thing

You realize that NordicTrack is a brand, not a device type? Of course you don't - you think that company never produced anything beyond their original cross country skiing emulator.  Hint:  such a device doesn't show up on the company's home page anymore, but stationary bikes do.

I agree with calmeox, it is not the same.  An exercise bike allows you to adjust the friction and has some preprogramed workouts.  It also tells you your cadence.   I like to do intervals over a fixed per of time.  An exercise bike allows that and bike stand doesn't.  What I don't need is someone yelling at me to "PUMP HARDER!!", I have a wife for that.

I have a road/gravel bike as well as a Peloton bike and putting the former on a smart trainer isn't the same experience as the spin bike.

I got the Peloton bike at a nice discount and the ROI is pretty quick when compared to my pre-pandemic gym membership and spin class spends.

I get that not everyone is in to spin classes but we can still try to be accurate, right?

I know, welcome to Fark.

Without variable resistance, a cadence meter and a power meter you're not getting anything remotely as useful as a Peloton.

If you're not into the classes something like a Wahoo Kickr (~$1200) would provide a comparable platform though you would still have to put a bike on it.
