Detroit Matthew Stafford can't win a playoff game

Was this seriously in doubt?

The Detroit Lions stopped producing decent football almost immediately after the Ford family took ownership of it.  It will resume producing decent football if and when it relinquishes that ownership.  Not before.

Hell, even the Bungles are winning playoff games now!

Your success will come sooner or later, Detroit.

As a Lions fan, we knew.

It's been a while since I've had this much optimism. You can see the building blocks are in place.

They very likely could have the best offensive line for the next five years. Adding a premier DE and they could also have a top ten defensive line. The players seem to like Campbell. Adding some defense, wide receivers and getting Okudah back would be huge.  Hopefully they don't draft a QB this year.

Exactly. Stafford was one to give the Lions fan hope. Now we just hope to get a good draft pick and hope it doesn't get bungled up.  I still think of the wasted Williams and Rogers drafts.

Drafting a QB from this class will kill the rebuild, particularly if they use their later 1st round pick to end up with the 4th or so best QB in this bad QB class.

There are a couple local radio personalities here in Detroit that blame Stafford explicitly for the Lions' issues the past decade.

This class is all about Offensive and Defensive linemen.

Jaguars might actually be decent if they draft right.

Rogers will leave the division eventually.

There was a Detroit sports pundit that was saying he wanted Qaron to stick around so that when the Lions are good again they have a couple games against one of the best. That's a good take IMO.

They could go almost entirely with defense in the draft and then try to fill holes at WR through free agency.  I'm sure there's some under used receiver out there who would come a little cheaper and be a good addition.  Cam Sims come to mind.

The Lions did play hard this year even though they were just overmatched much of the time.  It does seem like they respond to this coaching staff.

Stafford has to be the happiest guy in the NFL.

A friend of mine was like that.  He was howling mad when the Lions passed on Tua Tagovailoa in the 2020 draft, on draft night he was ranting about how Tua was going to lead the Dolphins to multiple championships and we'd passed on a future Hall of Famer.  Anyway, there are reasons why I don't rely on his quarterback talent evaluations.

While I don't put Stafford in the top tier of current NFL quarterbacks, he does make questionable decisions every so often, I still consider him to be a damn good QB.

Given that the Rams lost all their games in November, Stafford's maddening Pick 6 habit, and Lions fans and/or Stafford haters repeating yelling 'See, we told you! It wasn't all our fault! Stafford just can't win the big games!' The answer is yes, there was some serious doubt.

The Detroit Lions stopped producing decent football almost immediately after the Ford family took ownership of it.  It will resume producing decent football if and when it relinquishes that ownership.  Not before.

Just in time for the Vikings to draft Arch Manning.

Blame the best player the Lions put on the field instead of everyone else who sucked.

The Bungles have a more recent history of success in the SB era.  Granted they haven't won one, but at least they made the trip, twice.

The Eagles have 2 or 3 that I'm sure they would willing to part with for some low-level picks....

Nope, I'm sorry, I can't do that. Not even the Lions deserve to deal with JJAW or Reagor. (Now the Cowboys or Washington Snyders, OTOH...)

The Lions did play hard this year even though they were just overmatched much of the time.  It does seem like they respond to this coaching staff.

Dan Campbell may be insane when it comes to the press, but it's also absolutely clear that he cares deeply about the team and its players. He's going to do everything he can to win, even if it means spending an entire half of a game trying trick play after trick play in an effort to balance out a talent gap between the teams. And players are willing to go along with it if they see the coach is doing it because he seriously thinks it's the best chance, rather than just doing it to show how smart or clever he is.

I have no idea how the Lions managed to end up with him, but it'll be sad when they fire him in a few years because he's victim to the same circumstances that every Lions coach deals with - Lions management and ownership.

Same as Brady / Belichick never ending schtick. Or even better OBJ with the Browns.

When a QB (or receiver) is part of an environment long enough, with lots of success (or the absence of success), it becomes difficult to target whether it's on the QB (or receiver) or on the coaching.
