I've seen Wordle popping up on Twitter the past few days, and I thought "why is an old game popping up all of a sudden?"  I was remembering the old app.  Didn't care enough to look into why it was popping up suddenly, but I obviously cared enough to post here about it.

So, if I posted it, you have to read it!

My job here is done...

A group of us at work are trying to optimize the game. If you okay the stats, your opening word should be something like sonic, scion, coins, icons, etc. You then follow up a total blowout with later, alert or similar... Trying to knock out as many of the most common letters in the most common positions as possible.

When you get a letter or two, it becomes trivial if you have 4 or 5 guess remaining. The biggest goal is to change up as many incorrect letters as possible each guess

I usually start with either STORE or ADIEU. Those seem to make a big difference, and the latter helps pound out the vowels.

I read an analysis of a guy who wrote a solver algorithm that is quite cool - pretty much the same binary search principle of dividing the solution space in two with each guess. Finds almost everything in 4 attempts and only 4-6 words in 6. It's very interesting read if you're so inclined: https://aditya-sengupta.github.io/coding/2022/01/13/wordle.html

Well, today's is a fine screw you.  I had the first three letters by the second try, but it still took me all six attempts.  Pretty sure I used the last word that fit the requirements.

ABBEY was my second day playing this.  I really thought I'd figured out "oh, well obviously they can't use repeating letters" right off the bat, then was immediately proven wrong. TANGY is still the only one I've outright failed on, but again, I've only been playing for about a week., so I'm sure there's more to come.
