Delivery?

I thought we would just go get the food in our hover chairs ?? Unless of course the drones are going to drop it to us in our chairs... yeah, I guess that could work too.

I want to be able to go to these restaurants and eat at them, but uh, that's not really an option right now.

Drones?

There was nothing wrong with my trebuchet and parachute method.

Sure, people with trees had issues, and there were some broken windows, but we'll have it dialed in within 5-20 years.

I'm afraid that my grandsons in SoCal are going to hear about EPL's entry into drone delivery.  They'd figure a way to leave their windows open for the drone so they wouldn't have to leave their gaming chairs.

In all seriousness ... remember when Dominos was supposed to be working on a delivery vehicle with a built-in warming oven?

And there have been little R2 type delivery bots for use in cities.

You could have a vehicle that acts like a carrier, dropping off the drones near each location, then goes back to collect them.

...

But it would be *way* more efficient to do what some restaurants were doing in Asia during the pandemic -- take orders the day before.

They'd coordinate so all of the orders for a given apartment building or neighborhood were delivered in one trip, rather than send out a driver to drop off and then come back home to get their next delivery.

Yes, it's nice to be able to order random things and get them 15-20 minutes later ... but that's not happening with DoorDash or these other delivery places where drivers are basically doing this on their own.  (based on what I've seen picking up from Chipotle, and there's a delivery guy with a bag or two, waiting for another one to make the trip worthwhile)

Old School here.  I prefer going to a restaurant and waiting a bit for my food knowing that if it isn't right I can get it corrected quickly. The hot food will be hot, the cold food cold.  I have never used any delivery service, not even room service in a hotel.

I felt this way before I retired and COVID-19 or not, I'm going.  Got both shots and the booster, plus the flu vaccine - which seems to have missed one of the major strains for this season.  Rather normal, that.  Even so, I haven't had the flu in decades.

Vaccines are war games for your immune system.  The actual battle may be different from the plan, but practice is good.

I'll bring a dinner home, but I don't see the upside of having someone else deliver it. I'm not really into cold food, and I see those drivers putting several orders into their car at once. After four or five stops, that fettuccine alfredo is a coagulated mess. Pizza might be the exception, but we haven't even had that delivered in a couple of years.

You won't want to go outside because the skies will be filled with drones delivering cheeseburgers to fatasses.

There are certain places where those robot cars and drones will become irrisistable targets for the shotgun/AR15 crowd.

The Deliverator belongs to an elite order, a hallowed sub-category. He's got esprit up to here. Right now, he is preparing to carry out his third mission of the night. His uniform is black as activated charcoal, filtering the very light out of the air.

Have you considered doing something other than reaching into a bag of meme crumbs and picking out the one with the biggest chunk of mold?

I never use delivery services, for all the reasons people mentioned above plus the "the delivery fee takes all the restaurant's profits" bullshiat.

fark UberEats and DoorDash and the others. I can drive (or walk) to a place, order food and get it in less time, cheaper than paying one of them. I'm pretty lazy but I'm not that lazy. At least I'm helping to pay the people who actually make the food and not the company that takes a cut and contributes nothing. I know delivery drivers are just trying to make a living, I don't blame them, really, but I wish fewer people used delivery apps.

We need personal sized drones. One that will take the food from my plate then to my mouth. Kinda like mommy feeding a baby. Bzzzzzzz, here comes the airplane into the hanger ...
I don't want to stop gaming or posting just to grab food.

How are they going to clear this with the FAA? How are they going to ensure that oddly anxious neighbors don't shoot them down? How are they going to deliver to people who live in apartments or condos that are part of a larger building but have no safe place for a drone to land other than the sidewalk outside the building? How do we know a terrorist didn't hijack the system and install a bomb in a package?

Etc.

Well, once we get our flying cars, it won't be a problem.

Apartment dwellers can open their window and screen. The drones can follow over the roads and not across properties. No one cares enough about you to blow you up.

austerity101: I want to be able to go to these restaurants and eat at them, but uh, that's not really an option right now.

We tried that Friday.  The place was almost empty, so we opted not to order take-out, but to go ahead and dine in. A few minutes later, the place filled up with moms and their spawn from the local anti-mask, anti-Vaxx fundie cult.  We retreated to a spot as isolates as we could to have our lunch.  Meanwhile, we got to listen to them talk about who in their group has come down with "The Cold", as  they've been calling it.

I guess we're back to ordering curbside/takeout.

all it does is add another link in the chain of expenses and insures that no one turns a profit.

Very happy that I got to grow up in Seattle in the before times. Almost Live was actually watchable, which can be elusive for a small local show.
