Do you have to wear the jacket too?

The whole thing should have been cancelled. I don't care that China has been successful with its Zero Covid policy.

Now, it's no party.

I'm bored, so I googled.

Yea, I broke that rule about asking questions and knowing answer.

I've already written in my mind the start of the headline for the first Fark live thread of the Olympics:

It probably shouldn't be happening, and this time it's not just because of Covid...

/Note to the modmins: you might want to get someone to draft an update for the logo used for the NBC Olympics site

"Winter Olympics 2022: Organisers will not sell tickets to general public"

Tenderness, where is it?

Can we stop pretending to care about the Olympics? I'm tired of it. Could have canceled due to covid and nobody would have even noticed.

What will a stadium of Winnie The Poohs look like?

Organisers changed plans as China reported 223 new Covid-19 cases for 16 January.

They closed things down for spectators with only 223 new cases. Meanwhile here in the US, we had over 337,000 on the same day. Party On!

I guess they were holding off as long as possible, but aren't the games in a couple of weeks? Who's going to buy a ticket in January, then try to get a flight and a hotel room in China with a few week's notice?

I can see it now. Every hockey team tests positive for Covid except for the Chinese team and there you go, China gold in hockey and thereby a world superpower in the sport. Repeat for figure skating, skiing etc. Total sweep.

Average locals who don't  need to do that.

When I went to Atlanta in 1996 (6 hourndrive from home), my family stayed with relatives and found day of street tickets to an event.

The IOC and Chinese Government, such beautiful corruption.

I'm steadily becoming done with the olympics.

The corruption. The farce of Russia being allowed to compete in Tokyo. The ludicrous and obvious corruption of Sochi. It's all just gross. And the coverage here in the US just sucks.

They hadn't sold tickets outside of China at any point. Now, they're just not selling any more tickets to anyone.

Yeah the Covid Winter Olympics happening in authoritarian China isn't a real a draw for me. If this was a real Olympics, maybe but still a weak maybe.

Only 233 reported cases.  How many new workers at the slave camps this week?

Chinese facts and figures are meaningless. If we are to be believed, China is facing a massive labor shortage that has nothing to do with COVID deaths that didn't happen, the record numbers of people whose cell phone #s were canceled over the last 2 years is purely coincidental, and all those people working in textile mills are willingly forgoing pay in exchange for vocational training and the armed guards are solely for their protection.

Considering the traditional Chinese welcome (NSFW) that some of the black athletes received, it's probably for the best that crowds are limited.
