My sister has the same attitude. I suspect the reason my dad passed away is because she got plane germs on her when she came for a visit. They come, and one week later he's dead.

All I figured out from that is that it's pretty nice to be sick and rich in Aruba and how the author learned nothing from the entire experience except that rules are for the poors. Plenty of whine about having to quarantine and the Canadian government trying to prevent superspreader plaguerats from wandering aimlessly for bullshiat reasons.

Thanks it happened last year.
It's funny, she came again this year to see my mom for Christmas. I think she has no idea that she is putting mom at risk and that she might have caused dad's death.

Maybe, just maybe, someone should broach the subject to your sis.
Lost my kid sister to covid last year so I feel for you. My most heartfeld condolences to you and yours.

My oldest feels robbed of his high school years, and rightfully so.

Tough tittie.

Someone needs to tell him that five minutes after he graduates no one will ever care about anything that ever happened in high school, and two days after arriving on a college campus he'll realize just how shiatty high school actually was.

My uncle went to the Bahamas last year and was dumbfounded at all the things he had to do just to get there and back. Both his daughter and I had to help him navigate the rules and keep him organized with it. He was able to get there and back without incident, but decided not to travel anymore until all this is over.

Headline doesn't quite match the article (yeah, I know).  She does come across a bit tone deaf and privileged.

However, while I'd wait for Omicron to subside, travel can be done reasonably safe and responsible.

While true, it's also much easier to reconcile with years of hindsight.

A guy at work is going to Disney World for the third time in 6 months. I have no idea how he hasn't been sick at all or where he gets the money to do this or why anyone would visit the same theme park so many times in a single year.

Not for me.  If I had to spend another day in that place I would have vomited blood.

I do semi annual day trips with a group of friends, and lunch is ALWAYS at Firebird Grill.  This time, they were closed due to an electrical issue of some source, and the given the disappointment level expressed you would have thought someone had shot their dog.

Some people are just creatures of habit.

This tells you all you need to know about their privilege.

His great great grandfather would have been sleeping in a trench in France. His great grandfather would have been prying Japanese out of spider holes. His grandfather would have been up to his balls in rice water avoiding landmines. His father would have been in a desert protecting Kuwait's oil and sucking in burn pit toxins.

He'll be just fine, poor baby.

But they also "missed so many milestones".  Whatever TF that means.  They're alive and a couple of years older, aren't they?  Those are pretty decent milestones.

Yeah, I'm having difficulty relating with this woman.

Sittin' in the sun of a beach
I'll be listenin' to the tourists screach.
Watchin' the words roll in
Then I'll turn the page and read again, yeah.

I'm sittin' in the sun of a beach
Watchin' the milestones being reached, Whoa.
I'm just sittin' in the sun of a beach
Wastin' time...

I left my home in Toronto
Headed for Aruba's bays
'cause I've been so farking bored now
grabbed my kiddos and just flew away, hey.

It looks like, no one understands
So I give the middle finger of my hand!
I won't do what anyone tells me to do
So I give middle fingers of both hands!

This person is dumb. Aruba has a tiny population and is completely reliant on tourism and requires additional insurance be paid in case they catch covid. I wonder if she thinks they would have been rolling out the red carpet of she had covid upon entry into the country.

2022-01-17 5:29:22 PM
1) You were required to buy insurance before entering Aruba and their economy is entirely dependent on tourism. So, yes, you (as a tourist) are treated differently there. Word of mouth is all important for such tourism destinations. I guarantee that the regular people don't get treated that well.

2) You admit that you took a circuitous routing to avoid the COVID restrictions.

3) You had quarantined for precisely ZERO days when you arrived at the Canadian border. Whatever you did in Aruba, you were not quarantined on your flights. Once you break quarantine you were potentially exposed and what you did before is irrelevant.

4) Yes, some things are a bit excessive, but the government is, rightly, leaning on the side to reduce spread and setting a universally applied rule makes things much easier to manage.

No idea, at 80 and a widower he's still hitting on younger women though. He did a live-aboard dive boat so once he was there, it was a pod while they were out to sea anyway.

It's amazing the capacity for people to disregard/downplay/deny unpleasant facts in order to do things they want or feel like they should be doing. Humans are really bad at risk evaluation, especially when they want to be.

"We've already paid for flights and a time-share - more important, we need it for our mental health."

I couldn't read any further than this, else my blood pressure would cause a stroke.

What a self-absorbed little shat. JFC tapdancing on a saltine. We all have been experiencing a virus that has killed almost 900,000 people just in the united states, ravaging our society to the point where there isn't a single person who does not know someone who died from or knows someone who knows someone who died from COVID-19, and this child pisses and moans about her "mental health".

Idiots like her are PRECISELY why we are all in year THREE of this shatshow now, all because they want to
get back to "normal". "NORMAL" IS WHAT GOT US HERE. The things people did before the pandemic is what helped the virus spread so quickly and infect so many people, and this privileged shathead WANTS TO GO BACK TO DOING THAT.

Ya goddamn right I'm looking down on her, and if there is justice in the universe so will a bunch of nurses and an undertaker in the near future. F'k her flight, f'k her timeshare, and motherf'k her "mental health".

I'm done.
