And the northeast is preparing for one to hit any minute now.
It's winter, deal with it.

/ Pgh could get 8-12 inches

I got your 8-10 inches right here

How much ice? I know the random spot in SC I clicked on was up to 0.4 inches forecast. Not good.

We're supposed to get maybe an inch before it turns over to rain - which we're supposed to get 0.5".  If it stayed cold, we'd probably have another 6-12" of snow.

Our temps are stalled in the mid to high 20s for the projected timeframe. Looks like the whole Midwest and northeast is going to be slammed with precipitation in one form or another.

It's been in the single digits (F) for the past few days but it's supposed to warm up before the precipitation starts.

I just finished clearing the car windows and lights. The cars were warm enough that I was able to do it without scraping. The pavement is wet, not icy. We'll see what the morning brings. The wind is supposed to pick up overnight. Which could be both good (helps dry the roads) and bad (brings down limbs and power lines).

We only got a couple of inches of snow here in central VA, but then the serious ice started falling. Buncha snowflakes couldn't handle the pressure.

/ it also compacted the fallen snow

Having seen the "interpretative driving" folks here pulled during last weeks snowstorm I have high expectations for the performance scheduled tomorrow morning after a quarter inch or so of ice finishes building up.

places that expect snow have things like snow shovels and plows. places that rarely get snow not so much. it takes very little snow to cause major issues if no one shovels or plows. it is not that people are weather pussies it is that unplowed roads and unshoveled sidewalks become ice.

I recently moved to nc from Maine.  I was asked if I thought all of this concern about the weather was something I found funny. I told coworker no, I only mock southerners when they complain about the heat.

4" of snow in northern VA, plus several hours of sleet.  Some road plowing done.  Waiting on the rain.  Wine, Haagen-Dazs and football getting us through it.

I'm a Montrealer so I am very, very used to a lot of snow. But I (can't believe I'm saying this) totally agree with chucknasty (I rarely do). The neighbourhood I live in is primarily immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East. The befuddlement they tend to have during their first big snowfall is eye opening. Each winter I help push out a half dozen cars at least, and occasionally have conversations with folks about how proper winter gear is super important. More important than looking good. Long underwear, good boots, lots of layers, invest in a good winter coat (mine cost $550 4 years ago). I went to work yesterday when with the wind chill it was minus 38. Yeah, gotta have the right gear for that. Mindset as well. I don't really care how I might look in that type of weather as long as I survive it.

Mauldin, SC. Roughly around 7 this morning

Pittsburgh adjacent (I'll never fully tell you farkers). Just about an hour back

Unfortunately, they don't have the infrastucture we do. My friend who sent the pic from SC has said it's been a nightmare there thus far. And the day's not over yet.

For once, our local weather talkers were right on the money.  They predicted my area would get 6-8" starting at midnight.  12:01am, I started seeing flakes drifting around.  Woke up to 6" of snow on the back deck.  7" after my afternoon nap and that's where it's stayed.  It's still technically snowing but it's not going to add a measurable amount.

Meanwhile the snow drought in Chicago continues. We've gotten a grand total of about 4" so far this winter, and much of that has already melted.

/normal at this point is supposed to be 12" or more
//no snow in the forecast either

Southern California here.  Winter is over.  The only month in which it gets below 40F at night is December.

I've got the back door standing open so that I can braise some chicken without having to turn on the AC.

So, not for the first time,
My eyes selectively read the letters in "snowstorm" and I read "sandworms". I'm not typically dyslexic, but I have trouble with that one word. And not merely for comedic effect.

As a professional snow smasher, slow down.  All weather tires at the very least.  There is no need to risk your life, and mine, so you can go have coffee with the boys, stay home and let us do our jobs.

I now return you to your regular schedualed farkery
