Verna:  ...What're you chewin' over?

Tom:  Dream I had once. I was walkin' in the woods, I don't know why. Wind came up and blew me hat off.

Verna:  ...And you chased it, right? You ran and ran, finally caught up to it, and you picked it up. But it wasn't a hat anymore, and it changed into something else; something wonderful?

Tom:  Nah, it stayed a hat, and no, I didn't chase it. Nothing more foolish than a man chasin' his hat.

How is the Secretary of Defense in any way involved in a riot in a local city?  You'd may as well ask the President, oh, now I see it.

he's just a pawn in the game of Coup.
sure he was quickly posted to the position to ensure the natl guard would be standing down for a while.
but will he actually tell them that Trump told him to do it and put him there for that one thing?
I mean we know that's what happened and they've been caught red-handed but will he still act like it didn't happen?

FTA:
"The former Pentagon chief has provided conflicting testimony to Congress in the past, at one time saying that former President Donald Trump had "encouraged the protesters" with his remarks on Jan. 6 and then later saying he believed an "organized conspiracy" played a role in the Capitol attack."

Both statements are true and supported by evidence.

It will be interesting to read the transcript of his answers regarding his letter placing restrictions on the Guard's response to events if/when called up. The motivation to hobble was initially perceived to be supporting the coup, but has shifted to be Miller preventing the Guard's capability to get involved in a bloody confrontation designed to give Trump the situation he needed to invoke the Insurrection Act.

Quayle, Pence, and Miller may have stymied a coup on Jan 6, 2021. The coup plotters will make sure that doesn't happen next time.

"...and make it unstymyable!" Trump roared as he stomped out of the planning meeting.

The GOP President / VP officeholderS are immaterial to the coup plotters.  Total control of all government functions and power centers it their sole requirement.

They would prefer a pleasant veneer of respectability and professionalism (Reagan/Quayle) than crudity/zealotry (Trump/Pence), but you coup with the figureheads you have, not the figureheads you want.

The GOP bench is filled with soulless autocrats begging for a chance to play either of those roles.

Article 14, Section 3 every one of those assholes.

Exactly this. They are not alternatives, they are both elements of the conspiracy.

Dr. Bison: What's one acting secretary of defense more or less?

This is one of those Trump things that I fear flies under the radar of so many "non-affiliated" voters.

The sheer number of "acting" cabinet members or department heads that his administration resorted to because he couldn't, or couldn't be bothered to get his appointees confirmed by even Moscow Mitch's senate.

Christ, we even had a guy who patented a toilet for big dick dudes as head of the DOJ.

At BEST, this would suggest utter incompetence.  But too many of his appointees appear to have been selected for nefarious purposes.

But unengaged voters wouldn't really catch how brazen and norm-breaking this was, and Republicans just see it as a clever tactic in their holy war against the evil Democrats.
