word of two more "surprise" entrants in the womens Rumble (not gonna post in case no one wants to be spoiled.. unless they just go ahead and announce them tonight anyway, lol)..

also, Bayley probably -isn't- going to be in the Rumble as it looks like she hasn't been cleared yet. No word on Asuka.

also also, I really like Peacemaker. It's the Cena turn I've always wanted.

Me too... honestly I like it more than I liked the actual movie, and Cena's pretty much perfect in it. He's also clearly not afraid to do whatever he has to in order to get a laugh, lol.

I just had a thought..

Vince gets a day pass for her, and she runs down the ramp during her slot escorted by prison guards.

Also not in the Ruble: King Woods. Tore a muscle under his calf. 4-6 weeks to heal.

Well, "word" is Swth is going to be the "face" in this feud, so hopefully they found a way that isn't hugely stupid.

I think they could've easily turned Seth face during that five way match. Just have KO turn on him or Bobby kill him.

yeah that was pretty brutal from Meltzer.

i got mixed feelings about the Saudi Shows.  i know its blood money, but the fans in the stands have nothing to do with it, and genuinely  seem to enjoy themselves.

Its not a comparison by any means but I see it like MLB moving the Allstar game, yeah politics caused it, but the people of the city are the real ines that suffered.

Vikings circumnavigated the globe, their artifacts have been found in Oregon and California.

And, yeah, because of the ocean currents, the Vikings wouldn't have encountered Samoans... but there's heavy evidence that they made it to Japan during either the Heian or Nobu periods.

im late to the thread but, PeaceMaker is great.  John Cena oretty much plays an R rated version of himself.  His back and forth with Vigilante reminds me a lot of DeadPool and Hydrabob.

In the case of All Star games, you make the fans mad enough about not getting big events, they will vote the people out that are the cause of it. Saudi Arabia though, yeah, that's NEVER gonna happen.

I wouldn't have wanted anyone to judge me based on the actions of the American government during the previous administration so I'm not going to hold the actions of the Saudi government against the Saudi people. Should WWE be taking the money to go there? No, but if they're going to I at least hope the fans in attendance (ie, that father who saved up to take his kids) get a good show out of it. It's not their fault.

here's the thing though.. Metro Atlanta is mostly liberal and farking hates the governor (for many, many reasons).. and while that likely isn't representative of the Braves' fanbase specifically (this is a rant I've gone into many, many times in baseball threads ever since the Braves announced then subsequently moved from the city to the burbs, so I'll spare you guys that), I'd still say that vast number of people that were most affected by MLB pulling the game, local businesses, stadium workers, etc are the ones that voted AGAINST the policies that prompted them to pull it in the first place.

Yeah thats what pissed me off about it.  MLB stuck its nose and tried to posture itself as doing the right thing.

In reality a mostly minority city, small business, employees of the tourist industy etc lost millions for something they had no control over

I don't get the approach these leagues take - seems to me the path to success would be to put teams in cities that don't already have NFL football and yet they never seem to go that route.

Aliyah said I looked just like Shawn Spears at an NXT house show in GatorWench Fl.

Also that Punk/Wardlow match was absolute bullshiat.  Punk was in his deathbed from Wardlows hands.  Wardlow sold very little offense and still got beat by a roll up.  Punks ego isnt gonna let him lose to anyone.  Kingston should have gotten over on Punk, and now MJF is gonna lose to feed Punks ego

So for those "in the know" types here...

Why don't they have more title changes? Like back in the day both in the "bigs" and in rural territories.  I get the dominant champ angle, but the same ol gimmick wins and "so close" loses just is played out. It is just lazy writing? Are fans just rooting for "almost" and willing to wait for years for that Big E payoff just to get dumped quickly and forgotten?  Seems like diminishing returns for that fandom.  Gotta be lazy, right....right?

Am I just remembering falsely the tag team titles changing all the time in 80's-2000s?  The intercontinental, US, and even the world championship changed more than now.  I think it was more interesting to have that back and forth wins/loses and wondering if this was the time that a pushed contender or a known former competitor would win or the heel/face would lose and cheering them back to future contention.  Takes the fun out of watching when you know ahead it's "almost nearfalls", unbeatable on the ropes, and gimmick win... again... rinse, repeat...

And i guess this is mostly based on WWE, and even though AEW has been much much better in that regards. ...Am I crazy or the only one who's tired/bored of this?

I think the idea is that when you have a dominant champ who has held the belt for a long time (ie, Roman Reigns) it eventually elevates the hell out of somebody when they finally dethrone him. If Big E were to take him down when nobody else could, for example, he'd look like a total badass and someone that needs to be taken seriously. Unfortunately even if WWE manages to stick that landing (which isn't something they've been good at in the past) they tend to squander that momentum with poor booking right after.

There's a balance that needs to be struck. If you change a belt several times a month, it can add excitement as fans know a potential title change is always on the table but it can devalue the belt because when everyone seems to get a turn with it it no longer feels special. On the flip side, booking a champion to have a long title reign theoretically makes the belt mean more but can also make it become somewhat forgettable as well (see: Shinsuke Nakamura's current reign where he's had the belt for months but never seems to get booked to actually defend it).

Ideally you want a balance between the two. If you can mix a long championship run for someone in among some relatively shorter ones for others, you get the best of both worlds and that long reign looks so much more impressive. You also keep fans invested as they feel like the potential for a title change is always there... as much as I love Roman's current run, it's pretty much always been a foregone conclusion that he wasn't going to lose and that makes it hard to invest in the match.

Titles didn't really change that much until late 90's because Russo booking and more TV/PPV time to fill. It really was a perfect storm that took about a decade to recover from.

2022-01-14 11:40:26 PM
Idk. I don't even bother watching those matches as no matter how much they push  the challenger.. you know it's not gonna happen.  At least stone cold, Cena, Rock, HHH, Kane, Etc. Etc. Etc. Had a real threat of winning and did quite often. Never took away from their dominance or Fandom.  Maybe the Attitude Era was the pinnacle? I don't think any different about the APA, new age outlaws, Harlem heat winning  or losing... didn't even Scott 2 hotty and  grandmaster sexy win for a bit?

A good long modern title run like Pete Dunne or WALTER had in NXT UK made that belt worth something and every match was like "Will this person be the one...". Or look at Okada over in New Japan. Dude is 34, just got elected to the WON HoF and has held the belt longer than anyone both in cumulative time (5 reigns over 1790 days plus whatever number of days as the IWGP HW Champ when they merger the I.C & IWGP Championship into one title) and a single run (720 days with 12 defenses) with the IWGP belt. Everyone that faced him in a loss got elevated and even him losing in a non-title match was big. You can book a dominant champion, just do it smartly.

As for things like the I.C./U.S. titles in WWE or the TNT/TBS titles in AEW should only be for a short time (a couple months at most) as that way fans get to see some of their favorites as champs and gives Booking a look at how they do with a title before they get the "big belt", so to speak. And honestly, some people just top out at a mid-level title and that's fine. Not everyone can be "the face of the company". If they were, there would be no mid-card or lower talent and that would make for a boring show in the long run.

BTW, Boogs said in a recent interview that the reason Shinsuke hasn't seen much in-ring action as of late is due to a hand injury that is still bothering him.

2022-01-14 11:58:17 PM
I think it would be more interesting if they stopped backburnering (is that a word?) the former champ once they lose also.  Wouldn't it be fun if Mero was back in the mix, how about Black since he's squashing fools now and beat Cody multiple times. He's not a threat now? Can we only get one feud at a time? Are we that ADD? I don't know why this bugs me as idc about Roman and like his gimmick... just if you're having Brock and Lashley lose and still look like world beating monsters while still not diminishing their power or threat... that weak ass superman punch finisher and multiple saves from the 'fam only makes you look like a  "Depends" champ.  Maybe that's why wrestling stopped existing for a decade until AEW arrived and pulled me back in. Not that I have a dog in the fight, bit it feels nostalgic to me. And WWE reminds me why I stopped... I guess I want the monday night wars again... that brought the best and worst of everyone.and a early 20s me loved it!

I get the long title run.and have no issue with it... just don't make 80% of your wins assisted and sell yourself as dominant. I did like Seth's comment regarding that and it did make me more interested in the match... but we know he's not gonna win as the Usos were there foreshadowing.  Now if Seth started a shield 2.0 with some mix of NXT upstarts and established stars.... that would draw me in as it's now a diverse storyline and brings in a threat of defeat.

They tried that with Seth "Greater Good" gimmick. He had Buddy Murphy & Austin Theory and it was pretty crap. Granted Theory with Garza & Andrade (with Zelina as their manager) wasn't much better. A short visit back to NXT & now Austin's back and in a better spot...for now.

I'm not very familiar with NXT until kinda recently.  (Started  few weeks before the wedding.... where's dexter btw?)  That backstory and his gimmick is hilarious to me.

Maybe Dexter as the monster type since Seth is great on the mic and that dynamic could add comic relief.
Maybe the that tagteam with crowbar (unless they were booted??) With a different look, those guys could have potential since they already have the look and wasted on the roster.

If Vince was still alive and Nick's financial department wasn't running the show, there would be like a 85 percent chance Cena would be showing up in the Rumble match in Peacemaker gear before stripping to his undies.

But now I don't need to worry because A) For some reason they haven't booked Cena to even promote things easily and B) If they could get him, they'd ruin the Rumble surprise by announcing next week anyhow.

More or less. They both separately had a few years of wrestling before being signed to AEW and teamed up. Max once played one of Bobby Lashley's "sisters" on an episode of RAW, and Bowens was once in NXT.
