I suspect its because of the Thin Mints are only ones that share names across both brands.

Only people in ABC 'territory' will search for Caramel deLites.  Only Little Brownie folks will try to find Samoas.

/People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them there are two entirely different brands of Girl Scout cookies

They're even better when you store them in the freezer.

JZDave: Meh. I used to like them a lot, but they're very waxy tasting recently.

Your local GS council probably switched bakeries; there are two, and the cookies are not identical. The Thin Mints made by Little Brownie Bakers are much better than the ones made by ABC Bakers.

Huh.  As I moved around the country I just figured they changed the names of them at some point.

<googles>

Yep, that completely explains it.

Yeah, they've cut so many corners on their products that they're perfectly spherical now.

GSCs are the perfect example of a name that once stood for a quality product being exploited until nothing is left but marketing wank.

Several years ago, we ended up in Winnemucca, NV (on purpose).  There were some Girl Scouts selling cookies, so we made some inquiries.  I thought I'd had a stroke!  Thin Mints we're the only cookies that I recognized.  We had unwittingly stumbled onto ABC turf.  We took at least one box of each, strictly for research.

I don't care about thin mints, because chocolate and mint are an abomination.

The shortbreads taste basically the same. Caramel deLites are a bit better than Samoas, bother otherwise they're basically interchangeable.

But the lemonades... my god those things are good.

Give me the Little Brownie bakery Thin Mints any day of the week.  Years ago when I first tried the ones from ABC I thought the Girls Scouts had changed the recipe.  Had no idea they used two different bakers.

i am kind of shocked at the differences in the pictures above, I never knew the whole thing was a crapshoot.

Or... lemme just float this idea.. You could make your own thin mints. It's not that difficult. Takes a few hours.
