Out $550, which she is upset about, so she turns that into being out $11,000 instead. I mean, lady.... you left a deposit with them. They have your info.

It's the Chinese version of, "When keeping it real goes wrong."

Thirty-two dresses and damages estimated at only $11000. That'd be probably $100K here in the US. Because morons spend huge dollars on something they'll wear once.

I'm going with fiancé broke it off with her for another woman and now she doesn't want there to be any happy brides if she cannot be one. The deposit was incidental.

Either that, or she is a big fan of Yoko Ono's fluxus performance, "Cut Piece" and was doing research for her own version.

Why?  I ask this not to demonstrate how antiracist I am but out of sincere curiosity.  Is China known for bridezillas and I've somehow missed it?

If I had to guess, scruffythecat grew up in Southern China before they really blossomed onto the world stage, but moved in his early teens to the US.  Having seen both pre-boom China and modern American and experienced his own reculturaization in the process, he has a sense for the cultural-mobility difficulties faced by new wealth in a group previously accustomed to barely better than subsistence living.  Therefore he was able to anticipate that unsophisticated public behavior may be problematic for denizens of his former geo-cultural set.

If maybe he's just a weenie.

Exactly, except for the part of where I grew up. Very well said. I thought about how people were tossing coins into jet turbines for good luck not understanding yet why it might be bad Idea.

Defiantly a weenie.

Or maybe the cancellation was because he already figured out she was nuts.

No idea on my wife's dress--provided by her parents in China, we never were told the cost.  Everything else added up to about $300, justice of the peace wedding, no need for fancy.  We've never been fancy since, either--but it works.  33 years and counting.

chrisco123: 10,000 yuan equals 1,500$ but 100,000 yuan equals 74,000$??  Cop Math?

Probably NASA math--74,000 Yuan is pretty close to $10k, I haven't kept up with the exact exchange rate.
