Oh noes - the cops who biffed it are gonna get out on probation?

Tune in next week, when they're threatened with DOUBLE SEKRIT PROBATION!

I had just watched this case. Those cops did not seem to even know what questions to ask. They did let that poor girl down.

It's disgusting how much energy that got poured into 1 missing white girl when there are THOUSANDS of people who go missing every day.

/ everyone deserves to be found

If either were not willing to press charges against the other, what should the cops have done? If I recall correctly, during that encounter with the cops, Gabby admitted that she had hit him because he kept telling her to calm down. Should they have arrested her?

As for everyone deserving this attention?

She had a million followers, was young with lots of potential, was doing something kinda cool, and she was very pretty.

That's a million clicks from her followers for any story.

If I go missing I'll get like 5 inquires and nobody even look. Well ... except high level officials and a sudden James-bond worthy chase to secure a scientist with super mega dangerous information about that asteroid coming next week.

Uh.  I mean nothing. Nobody would look for me and there's no reason to panic. Never mind. Thank you.

She might be alive now if they had.

Yes, they should have.

I figure I would go missing more than a month before anyone would notice, with the possible exception of the people I work with (remotely) who would wonder why I keep missing the morning stand-up.

Mistakes were made.
Words were exchanged.
An incident occurred.
Measures were taken.
Some time passed.
Decisions were made.
Some time passed.
Events transpired.
Questions persist and answers will be provided in time.

The media interest is driven by the perp not the victim.  Laundrie was a compelling villain.  As was OJ.

Both probably should have been arrested, since it was a mutual combat situation.

Or maybe not. She may have resisted arrest and been shot.

Mandatory arrest laws exist for domestic violence situations for a reason, kids.

In another article, one of the cops actually apologized and said he had regrets.  It's really weird to hear a cop apologize. They usually completely clam up.

Whoa whoa whoa, don't go overboard now, they're both dead so it's all good now, right? Won't have any more pesky domestic disturbance calls from the white folks, so more time to spend oppressing minorities >.>

The review, conducted by Capt. Brandon Ratcliffe of the Price City Police Department in Utah, found that the officers who responded to an Aug. 12 incident between Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, misclassified the incident.

Thousands of missing people every day? Um... citation needed.

Yes, lots of states have "mandatory arrest" for DV cases. Evidence or admission that someone hit the other? That someone goes to jail.

Of course, this backfired on the women who hit men and think they'll get a pass.

And the mistake was the good old boy "yeah we all know how women are" wink wink bullshiat where they know he was abusing the hell out of her but were totally  willing to let it slide cause they sympathize with the wife/gf beater for reasons they're rather not get into. Cops having zero scrutiny is part of why our justice system is broken to the point of being a bad joke.

Separate them for at least 24 hours. They probably got right back in the van and continued to go at it blaming each other and escalated even more.

I think all workplaces should have morning stand-up comedy routines.  What a great way to start off your day.

The cop did this. He made her get a hotel while she stayed in the van (or vice versa).

What he didn't do was arrest her for hitting him, and that's the state law he broke (mandatory arrest for DV).

in the good ole' cop days they would have beaten him until he forgot how to walk.

sure it does now wound good to do that now a days, but she would still be alive...
