This could be added to the list of the world's strangest things.  It reminds me of the illustrations in that Quadrivium book.

Yes! I bought two and gave one the my GF.

Great!  Glad to give you a source of brownie points :)

They hold the smaller hole further away, but it seems like you would have the smaller hole  on the other side,.

Hmm, holding my hands such that the circle formed by the thumb and forefinger is smaller on one hand than the other, and looking through them would make people look at me funny on the subway, but otherwise, I can see that the smaller hole further away seems to work at arms length.  There must be something about perspective and the expansion of light from a source, that makes it work.

I had to pause on a page that described how to construct a 7-point polygon on a circle, iirc.  The first step says to divide the circle into six parts to make a hexagon.  Hello.  Not all of us have the same proficiency in compass and ruler as, um, Aristotle.  I would just use math and computers to calculate the figure, but in a lot of cases, when designing optics or such, I will use constructions with compasses, rulers, pencil, and protractors. Geometrical constructions are fun.

Videos of leeches feeding on human blood are rather gross.  They don't use them any more, do they?

Gotta hit the hay.

Have a great week and watch out for Russian satellites!
