WTF? So instead of taking the licenses away from these idiots, who have shown they shouldn't be driving, you'll just wait until they actually maim or injure somebody before doing anything? Should be pretty easy to get the license plate numbers from the dash cam video

What is there to investigate?  Unless the license plates are readable in the video, there's nothing that can be done.  Even if they are, it would still be a matter of proving who was actually driving at the time. That would be very difficult without cooperation from the vehicle owners, which the cops won't get.

That's a ton of time used for what is essentially an everyday occurrence on the Beltway. Investigative resources aren't infinite, especially since at least one of these is probably a Maryland driver, so now you're involving a second state's time and resources in a case that probably won't accomplish anything.

That would be an overwhelming precedent. If they, or any state, started cracking down on drivers for video others sent them, they'd be getting thousands of videos from around the state every day. Many of them legitimate referrals, many of them not. And a lot of it would be like football refs seeing the retaliatory infraction, and not the initial foul that started the dispute.

(I've noticed seeing the same cars with the same routes and times. Some of the grudges could have been brewing for weeks.)

Sure but looking at the video the truck wasn't exactly that close behind the car that the driver needed to slam on his brakes to send a message. It was an asshole move that got an asshole move in response. Judging by how quickly the guy in the car farked off he wasn't feeling as tough as he thought he was when he decided to brake check the truck.

It would be a huge upgrade from today, where it's the roulette wheel of death by police if you get pulled over. I'd much rather get a ticket in the mail with a link to a video for my infraction which I could then fight in court than have to have a conversation with a jacked up nutjob with a handgun.

Virginia is open carry, Asshole driving the Big Black Truck is just the kind of person to take things just a bit farther, I would have gotten the hell out of there too

When I was younger and dumber I was involved in a similar situation in a redneck part of MD (Upper Marlboro..back in the day) guy come roaring up on me in a "monster truck" on a two lane road and is inches from my bumper even though I'm already doing 20 over and so I put my foot on the brake just enough to make the brake lights come on.   He brakes and the changes lanes, roars by me doing 90+ on a 50 mph road, then cuts me off so  I brake, change lanes.   He changes lanes,  cuts me off again.  Lather rinse repeat.   So I pull over to the shoulder and stop to let asshole boy get well ahead of me.  he notices, grabs the shoulder and comes flying down it in reverse and then hops out of his truck and starts stalking towards my car.  He's one of those tiny  barely 5'0 skinny redneck guys you always seems to see in the "banjo-enhanced regions"  I'm 6'2 and at the time was a somewhat fit 325 or so, and I was pissed, so I got out of my car, and stood there with my arms crossed.  He  ..got back in his trucked and roared away flipping me off and shouting curses.

Fun at the time, but stupid , one firearm added to that story and I wouldn't be here to tell it

Who says they won't be the one to start it? I still remember the time that an unmarked MA state police car on 95 kept surging up on my bumper as I was doing ~80 in the passing lane.  I thought I was f*cked for speeding, but when I got into the right lane turns out all he wanted to do was go faster and he zipped by at like 90.  My only crime was not speeding enough and that apparently made him very impatient.

I see more interesting stuff on /r/dashcams or whatever.

The 300 doesn't look like it was a brake check.  The first application of brake was due the car in front of it braking.  The second could just be him not paying attention and not a brake check.  The truck driver is just a huge asshole driver is the only known quantity.

Sure you can't be sure who was drive, but you what was being driven.  Seize the car for 30 days or something.  Works until they start using Texas paper plates.

Been there, especially on the Beltway or behind two truckers side by side on I-81. Sometimes, you just have to back off, give some space and relax until something opens up. Not always easy, but I'm getting better at just letting things go over time. Let someone else make it to YouTube, I'd rather be anonymous.

My right rear tail light has a messed up wire that will work for a while, then stop working for a while. No indications from the truck that it's out. The brake light and turn signal both work fine.

A couple weeks ago driving to work, all of a sudden some jackass was tailgating me hard. I keep the trailer ball on the truck for just such instances. It was dark out, but the roof rack on the car looked off to me, so instead of brake checking them, I disconnected the cruise control and just let the truck slow down ally itself.

Judging by the way they suddenly got in a different lane and passed me at a rapid speed, the officer wasn't thrilled that I didn't take the bait.

The DMV is nuts - sometimes it's safer not to move over.

Case in point - I'm in the passing lane, already doing a bit over the limit, passing an 18 wheeler on an uphill.  Dude comes flying up behind me in a Wrangler, right on my ass.  I speed up a little, and as soon as I get to the front of the semi, flip on my right signal, moving over once I have enough space that I'm not cutting too close to the front of the tractor's hood.

With my signal already on, just as I start moving rightward, Jeep-man tries to pass me in the gap between me and the Semi.  Swerves back into the passing lane, blows his horn, and tries to pull a fake-out version of the Dodge Ram from the video.  I held the wheel steady - I'm not about to skid out of control trying to swerve because of that clown.

Like, seriously? you're in a farking TJ wrangler without real doors.  I'm in an 8 passenger SUV.  Who the fark do you think is going to win that one?
