The bullshiat encapsulated within the three bullet points leading off this garbage is breathtaking in its depth. Let's try to clear away some of it a bit.

Several firms CNBC spoke to encourage side hustles because they help workers better understand business problems help propagate the concept that the firm itself shouldn't feel any sense of responsibility for providing enough wages, benefits, or opportunities of advancement to ensure that its employees can survive comfortably on one job.

Other companies like employees' extracurricular activities if they benefit wider society can be used as components of feel-good corporate marketing that allows them to take easy credit for work their employees are doing that they do not themselves have to support.

But some employers warn that the day job needs to be ring-fenced and not compete with the side business something that can be codified and regulated by their own HR departments despite being something the employee does on his or her free time, a concept that still exists despite the company's best efforts to permanently end it.

Is this "hustle" something that is necessary to life?  Then why are you trying to impose it on me?

I'm old enough to remember when "hustle" meant "scam."

Maybe it still does.

I've got one worker that makes extra money on the side fixing up and selling used cars, but he actually likes working on cars, we've had basically as much overtime as anyone wants during this pandemic and most of my guys that need a little bit more money can make more on overtime at work than they could on a side gig.

As for my guys that go crazy for the overtime.  I've got one recovering addict, he tells people he's "all about the money", but it's just as much to help him keep out of trouble, also, due to his criminal past he's nearly 40, is working to get his record expunged, is looking for a house and trying to play catchup on retirement savings.  He was just telling me the other day that he's already managed to put $30,000 away this year after buying a car.

Then I've got two who are just in bad relationships where their wives spend all their money and don't work.

When I was buying my house I was still hourly and I did 6 hours overtime a week, then put that money straight into my savings account for a down payment and transaction costs.  We had limits on OT at that time, so I threatened my boss with coming in hungover the next day if she didn't approve me for 2 hours OT that day.

Yes, but only after you have recouped the cost of the pistol.

The wallets I take should cover that quickly.

Oh, crap. Did I just invent muggings as a legit side hustle.

Cool

If you want to hit someone, I might suggest a baseball bat instead of a gun. Guns are not for hitting or whipping, dummy. Guns're meant to make murica grate again and stand your ground all over the libs. Jeez, I hate it when we have to spell it out. Llamas are for whipping.

If you've got a side hustle, your main employer can argue you don't need a raise.

I'm getting some new tires today and the guy checking me in works this as a second job. His real job is fireman at Ellsworth Air Force Base. So it's sad the enlisted troops need second jobs to cover expenses for their family but that's how it is. I don't think he's calling it a side hustle

996 is completely unsustainable and will kill the country within a generation. Not that the corporatist scum care of course.

That's how I feel!
My last employer, a casino, required us to sign paperwork saying we would have no 2nd job. They said it was to prevent schedule conflicts. I still feel like it's none of their damned business.

Since the days of primordial soup, the hustle is all. The last few decades have been an aberration.

It was for a tribal casino. They make their own rules - something about sovereign state (I don't understand it deeply.) It was at hiring time. The choice was: sign it, or don't work here.
