Yes, instead of actually doing anything to get Manchin et. al. to vote for it, including punishment, threats or extortion, let's just utterly give up on things the American people want.

It's practically the entirety of the Democratic Party against one man, and they can't figure out what to do? Despite their near-limitless access to money, resources, and intelligence? Give me a f*cking break.

This is shameful and embarrassing. The voters did their jobs. Do yours, Democratic Party.

Are any of them massive handouts to the rich?

Otherwise, Manchin ain't interested.

Which one is going to be offered via reconciliation and which 13 are going to require 60 votes?

Sounds like we're going to be lucky to get universal pre-k, some expanded handouts for childhood nutrition, and some tax breaks that largely benefit car manufacturers.

While these are each important, they're not exactly ground-breaking or inspiring. This yawner of a bill will truly epitomise the "Sleepy Joe" agenda. Oh well...elections have consequences, and this is the best we're going to get out of a Democratic presidency with 48+2 votes in the Senate.

2022 is going to roll around, Dems are going to lose on a platform of not getting enough done despite doing their best on COVID and a few other issues that lead to some, but no where near enough, improvement, and failing to do others that they could (student debt forgiveness as promised)

Repubs will retake control of either the House or Senate, or both, and we'll ride 2 more years of gridlock, until all the voter suppression laws being installed and failed to be stopped lead to a Republican win in 2024, Dems will throw up their hands claiming "We did everything we could, but, the rules are the rules, and when they go low, we go high!"

Then we'll have 4 years of tax cuts for the wealthiest American's as wages stagnate, homelessness increases and we redefine what poverty is to an even lower standard so we can all pretend we're still some idea of "Middle class". Homes that used to be able to have a room for each of their 2 children, will now be bunking both kids in the same room and still believe they're "Middle class" as everyone slides another rung down an ever rising ladder.

And that's the *best* case scenario.

I've been hating all the "it's not over" all over the media today. Fat lady sang, people. I appreciate Jayapal going "We're gonna work on what Biden can do by executive order," but ffs the faster we deal with the fact that BBB is dead the faster Manchin becomes irrelevant. Work on voting rights, blast him in campaign ads, stop him from committees, and support progressive candidates everywhere. There's only a power struggle if you keep holding on to the hope that BBB can pass.

What idiocy. They need to understand: Manchin didn't care if the infrastructure bill failed to pass the house. He already voted for it. If Democrats torpedoed their own bill, the only people they would be hurting would be the millions of people depending upon improved infrastructure in this country.

"Hurr durr, we should fail to accomplish anything this legislative session because we want to spite someone in our party who only agrees with 90% of what we want! That will ensure us electoral success for years to come."

Yeah, there needs to be a floor vote and be done with it...but make Manchin actually vote against it.

Loathsome as Manchin is, he's acting as McConnell's useful idiot. Instead of the headlines reading "Republicans making everything worse," they read "Democrats can't make things better."

Super clever trick that. And I absolutely despise that we've fallen for it.

He was one of *eight* Senate Democrats that opposed increasing the minimum wage to $15/hour.

They 100% should be stripping Manchin of any committees, cutting party funding and support (not that it would matter since he is stepping down after this term). I'm torn on Biden doing some of the more quasi-legal/illegal things he can do behind the scenes like blackmailing his daughter, hit him hard with investigations, poison the well on any future BoD or cushy lobby job post-senate. Turning the wheel is one thing, but biting the axle is a very risky move to pull any may payoff, but could just as likely backfire.

This was set in motion the second conservative Democrats teamed up with Republicans to screw progressives and pass the corporate handjob bill without BBB.

We knew this was going to happen.

I don't want to hear a single goddamn person say "They don't actually have that much power, though" or "We need Manchin" or "You just want Republicans in power" or "We need MORE Democrats" or any other weasel-word coward bullsh*t

The Democratic Party is a grift. It exists to normalize right wing policy and prevent left wing policy. And it's f*cking us over,.

This has nothing to do with Republicans. This has everything to do with Democrats being pathetic and weak pieces of grifting sh*t.

or break it into pieces if the whole thing is dead?

Romney is in favor of anything for Americans making babies, has proposed legislation of his own. IIRC, most of it is along the idea of making it affordable for people to have kids.  There is 48D+1R, peel off a few more.

Create a bipartisan "For The Children Concern Committee" and pass things like the child tax credit, pre-k, summer meals, etc.

I almost typed  "after all, who can be against kids?" but then I remembered who all is in congress.

Manchin's master's wishes are more important to Manchin than Biden's.  Unless a way is found to change that, Manchin will continue to obstruct at his master's bidding.

Nothing's getting 60 votes. The only welfare that will qualify was in the defense bill

2020 -We need to elect enough Democrats to get the majority so we can do things for you
Then
2021 -We didn't have enough of a majority because of Manchin and Sinema so you have to vote for more Democrats ( which is actually probably illegal because if you are voting Democrat ,you aren't voting for a Republican as it is.)

Voter asks " Ok, tell me which ones will help us so we don't have another Manchin."

Democrats " Oh no, you need to vote blue no matter who."

Third Way Democrats: "We have a plan."
Voters: "What is it?"
Third Way Democrats: "First, the Democrats get elected into power."
Voters: "And that you've done. Now, what?"
Third Way Democrats: "Well, we didn't expect the first part of the plan to work, so we have no further plan. Sometimes, you can overplan these things..."

Serious question: WHY is he a Democrat? His agenda does not align with the party platform, and since he runs in West Virginia, being a Democrat probably hurts him more than it helps him.

At this point, just expel him from the party and and let him join the GOP. Sure it will suck that Mitch will he in charge again, but the Dems can just filibuster every bill he wants to pass.

The point about McConnell taking over if Manchin flips is highly overrated and annoys the shiat out of me, the way some Farkers banter it about:

1. After the end of August, Congress goes into recess for the most part, and except for confirmations is idle.

2. A third of the Senate is up for re-election in 2022, so the current makeup for the Senate (50-50) isn't guaranteed.

3. If he's not going to budge on BBB, he's definitely not lifting a finger on voting rights at all. Or at least he's not going to remove the filibuster to allow a vote for it.

4. At worst if he flips, R's have control of the Senate for 8 months. Biden still is the president, Manchin would have made himself irrelevant and useless to R's, and D's can rally around him as the scapegoat. Plus, he makes himself look like the bad guy for taking his ball and going home.

This is all a moot point as he wouldn't dare flip parties - he gets much more power dicking around fellow Democrats than being a Republican. Manchin the D can play the cat-mouse game to no end. Manchin the R is R #51 on the totem pole, McConnell's biatch, and probably wouldn't survive beyond 2024 in a primary.

If you made a cartoon villain of Manchin, his name would literally be Senator Mansions.
