We're at the point now where the Republican candidates are coming right out and saying "Elect me and I'll end democracy as we know it and make sure only the 'right' votes are ever counted again, and start picking out a place in the house to hang your official portrait of Emperor Trump -- if I were you, I'd make sure it's visible from the street." and people are like "Well, I"m going to have to do some research -- I'm just not that excited about the Democrat"

"What I've asked for is to get this cleaned up, to make sure that our elections going forward are fair and can rebuild the confidence of people."

It's your farking lies that created any lack of confidence.

In their quest for power and grift these chuckle farks are destroying our democracy. As if dealing with gerrymandering, the farking ridiculous electoral college system and unlimited amounts of dark money were not enough already, now the Republicans are wanting to straight up toss out the popular vote altogether if they don't like the outcome.

I for one will refuse to participate in a government that allows Republicans to set aside a states popular vote for president.

If any of these scumbag states try this shiat, such as not certifying a state slate of electors because of "reasons" (not winning the popular vote) congress needs to reject that states slate of electors, period. You want to cheat, you don't get to cast your vote in congress in December, that simple, your state doesn't get a say in who will be the next president.

Looking forward to the coming shiatshow the Republicans want to put us all through.

Farking swear it is easier to teach a dog to speak French than to get a Republican to admit they are being lied to about voter fraud.

Theoretically there will be fewer Mail-in ballots next time around so the accusations of fraud will be less amplified. Hard to say how much of this is for show to appease the "they took 'er 'lection" jackasses versus legitimate threat for 2024.

I would love to see the GOP outrage if they called bc an election rigged that a GOP won then refuse to certify it based on zero evidence.  It would be hilarious

Here's what will happen: states will send 2 groups of electors, one based on the actual vote, and one picked by Republican legislators. The House will say "we don't know which one is legitimate, so the Electoral College vote must be decided by the House of Representatives". And since Republicans will take over the House next year, they'll pick Trump.

And it will all be perfectly "legal", which will cause Republicans to say it was a legitimate election, and Democrats to say there's nothing they can do. And that will be the end of the US.

Won't happen. Youngkin won a vote over McAuliffe that was narrower than Biden's victory over Trump, and nobody in Virginia complained.

Batshiat electoral insanity is the province of the GQP. They are the only threat to American democracy, and this nation will not be safe until the lunatics are out of politics forever.

They're not being lied to and deceived by it, they're actively participating and perpetuating it because the entire notion of being outnumbered in the ballot puts them in a position of being told "no" about their ideas.

If there is one thing spoiled, idiot children hate and will violently lash out about, it's being told "no". They want something, they want it NOW, and by God if they don't get it, they'll burn the whole world down before they'll accept that refusal. Conservatism necessitates force, violence and destruction to exist. Without those things, they have nothing and the perceptions of their own god-given rights to everything all the time come to be seen by a rational majority as being merely delusional. They're all essentially megalomaniacs and homicidal lunatics.

Thanks for cheering me up!

While I am about as pessimistic as you are about the scenario, this last time around we had Republicans both at the state level and in congress that there were not willing to take that step. Sure there were all the Republican morans in congress, mostly the house, yammering for it, but I believe that under all the grift and pandering there are Republicans that understand that a move like this will break out country, it will be the end of the US as we will never again be able to have free election under our existing system and the ONLY way a new system will be put in place is after we have a nice long drawn out fight over who gets to design that system.

If congress does not do something about shoring up our elections process from a federal level, and mind that many of these dipshiat states will most likely reject or ignore any new voter protection laws coming from this congress or Biden's desk and just do their own thing and say see you in the supreme court etc, before 2024 we are going to see a shiat show like we have not seen since, well Jan 6th. Used to be able to say 68' Chicago convention was the biggest political shiatshow in recent US history. But the Trumpers felt the need to attack the farking Capital building because we didn't re-elect a draft dodging, sexual assaulting, racist asshole in the dumbest coup. So now they hold the torch for being responsible he most farked up thing to happen to our democracy in the last 160 years.

No, you see, he's fighting for your freedom to not have elections stolen from you when you really believe the other guy won no matter what the evidence says.

Evidence can be faked; gut feelings are immutable.

Probably, and it should've been lined up to pass shortly after Biden was sworn in after the violent insurrection on January 6th.

They should have literally taken some ideas, even from Republican states, to fix the problem. Yes, I said even from Republican states. Ohio, as an example, has Representatives of the parties coming in on a regular basis to watch the county clerk open / feed mail-in votes into the machine. The only thing they don't do is hit "tabulate" at that time. On election day, after the last batch of available mail-in votes is fed into the machines, they hit tabulate, bang, MAGIC!, they get the results of the previous few weeks worth of votes. That means no staying up all night, having it take several days, to feed votes into machines delaying the result.

If all states did that we would've had results the day after (at worst) of the election.

Yep, releasing partial results as each district comes in is insane, and just leads to the short of horseshiat we saw in 2020, "Derr, how come when I went to be Trump was ahead by 2 points but this morning he is losing by 4?"
