A sad Australian story. I presume that the logging happens to create jobs, and they employ cowboys who don't give two shiats about the environmental consequences of lazy decisions because the important thing is that they're out there with chainsaws. The short-sightedness of the whole deal is not unusual in this country, where natural resources are plundered unsustainably. We're a country with pretty crappy soils for the most part, and not a lot of forest in a very large land mass, but a lot of trees die so we can be a big exporter of wood pulp. It would almost make sense if we were exporting fine wood furniture or something, but nah, it's got to be pulped.

It's not unique to Australia, I've read Bill Bryson's descriptions of shiatty logging practices in the US too where a lot of trees are wiped out and yet losses are still made.

What about court injuctions? Are those not a part of Australian jurisprudence? Order them to stop breaking the law, when they do, find them in criminal contempt of court.

I thought the US was the country where shiat like this happens. If they can get away with it in Australia then they are just as farked as we are.
