Wait until they find out there are books by Sam Clemmons in the library.

I am pleased to report that nobody was physically harmed

Maybe not, but there is going to be a lot of lingering emotional harm, from your stupid overreaction.

Give then a break. It was a charged situation.

The staff member complied with the investigation, but there was a bit of resistance involved.

I just did a quick search with "phone charger gun" and it seems that there are power banks that are made to look like gun magazines. I wonder if it's what the kid saw?

2021-12-08 9:32:19 PM
My neighbor got a text from her son that he was on lockdown, as someone with a gun was outside the school. She got hysterical and said, "I'm driving over there to run over anybody with a gun!" We tried to stop her but she kept screaming, No it's my son!

Turns out, it was somebody walking with a cane.

I imagined her seeing another vigilante parent with their gun, and running them over, starting a chain reaction of good guys with guns and cars running each other over.

Anyway, my point is that people are stupid.

A kid thought he saw a gun and reported it, what else were they supposed to do, ask if someone brought a gun over the intercoms?

Ohm igosh. So negative it hertz. They're going to socket to him with charges, as he's a serial offender.

And he's a pickpocket!

And what if it had been someone with a gun?  Go ahead and run over that hunter.

What kid doesn't know what many types of phone chargers look like? Is this a home school situation?

So kids have confirmed another way to get out of classes.

2021-12-08 9:48:56 PM
If kids these were actually taught gun safety instead of gun fear then they would know what guns actually look like and not mistake phone chargers for guns.

If so, then it would've resulted in a battery charge.

You know, not gonna mock when they are overreactive these days after the kid was let back to class armed recently.

Right. No gun fear education needed. Why should anyone teach kids to be wary of people with guns? It's not like anyone ever used one of those things to hurt someone.

"Milton Police officers then arrived to the school along with officers from nearby departments. "

How many officers do you need?

All you can find. It might be one of those high capacity chargers.

I'm not a police tactician so I'm pulling the following from my ass: Ideally enough to visually cover the entire school without any blind spot but that is unlikely to achievable.

Only a good guy with a car can stop a good gun with a guy.

Wait, only a good gun with a guy can stop a good car.

Dammit, only a good car with a gun can stop a good guy with a guy.

I'll come in again.

Kids will start claiming they saw a gun to get out of a test. Admin has to take it seriously, and they can't really punish the student who cries wolf.

Expect a lot of this in the future.

If you have kids who automatically assume random objects are guns, you've raised and taught badly, parents and schools.

I feel sorry for all the kids who are nervous and on edge because of all the school shootings. It's so sad.

This is my takeaway.  It just farking sucks that on top of everything else, kids have to worry about this too.

Yeah, it's all on the parents and schools, not at all on the ridiculous, uniquely American number of mass shootings Americans experience dozens or hundreds of times a year, many of them at schools.

I'm not a police tactician so I'm pulling the following from my ass: Ideally enough to visually cover the entire school without any blind spot but that is unlikely to achievable.

When it's a possible school shooting, they pull all available units from every law enforcement agency which has active shooter training in a very large area.

They want to assemble enough LEOs so that they can cover the entire perimeter and search, process and assemble anyone coming out of the school. That's just to start with. Some officers also need to be available to handle distraught parents who randomly show up. Others need to be there to search cars in the parking lot to make sure they aren't holding a massive bomb.

As far as tactics, they want to put together several tactical teams which have ideally trained in this school or have active shooter training and get them in ASAP. If they get the shooter(s) holed up in a classroom or other building then they need a second, smaller perimeter there for each location. The tactical teams should also have extra officers who can help get wounded out of the building while the others continue to hunt for the shooters.

If the encounter becomes an extended affair (either a waiting game or a shootout) then they may need to actually rotate officers. The biggest hazard in an armed adversarial situation is complacency due to boredom. More than a few hours laying prone with a rifle in a hallway watching a door, and most people need a break so that they can continue to be alert.

They also need a shiatload of ambulances to handle potential wounded.

This works out to an overall huge assload of people responding.

Somewhere between what apparently happened, and doing nothing.
Something in the middle.

Like: "Hey Fred, little Jimmy said he saw you with a gun. WTF?"
The first 5 seconds of Freds response dictates what happens next.

If Fred was the least bit weird on the response, full on SWAT response.
