It felt like a filler episode, which after last week was a little disappointing. I do love Clint and Kate's chemistry and felt genuinely awful for him towards the end when the gravity of the danger to Kate and his family fully hit him. And I found myself actually liking Jack.

A bit slow, but lots of development, both with plot and characters. This was very much a 'let's take a breath and figure out wat we've got, here,' episode before heading into the final stretch.

But, solid action set at the end.

And we still don't know what the deal with the watch is, only that it's more than just a memento.

Nerd time. I loved the Matt Fraction run on Hawkeye that this is based off of. They changed shiat to get it to jibe with a post-snap Marvel universe but I think it's pretty farking good. My favorite of the marvel tv shows so far.

Been avoiding spoilers for this, so was surprised to see Echo and didn't recognize Kingpin's voice. Also, think my guess on who Jack is was way off - my google is failing me, but the character in the comics has a brown costume with a kind of heart beat flat-lining logo on his chest. Can't recall for the life of me what his name was, but arrogant charming ass kind of character and want to say he was in Heroes for Hire (but not Paladin). Anyway - definitely not that guy.

Swordsman.

The watch is an Ultron Tamagotchi.

The character is based off of Swordsman, who was Clint's mentor when Clint grew up in the circus (in the comics). Same name, same spelling.

https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Jacques_Duquesne_(Earth-616)

Obviously, though, Clint & Jacques don't have that kind of relationship in the show.

....why?

I mean, not even Tony is/was arrogant enough to keep any part of Ultron around.

Leaving satisfied with this week's installment of Hawkeye.

Well I was making a joke because I'm always looking for any silly way to bring back Ultron and do him justice but now I remember Shuri  downloading Vision in Infinity War.

I'm thinking it's somehow related to his wife since she asked about it. Maybe she was in SHIELD and that's how they met? But lots of people were in SHIELD and don't seem that freaked about maintaining cover.

Nice. Not a terrible idea, overall.

MolsonCanadian: So the watch is "vintage" and could blow someone's cover? Bucky's? No... Clint's family? How? Hmmm

My current thinking is that it can lead back to Clunt's family, just a member of it from the comics who hasn't appeared in the MCU yer.

Could it be one of the timepieces from the Time Heist? (Likely Tony's - he's the type of guy that would build it into an $ungodly watch...)

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the watch actually belongs to Nick Fury, and it contains possible non-SHIELD assets that he had. The reason that the Kingpin wants it is because he plans on selling it to the Dark Avengers in exchange for certain garuntees. I also think there is going to be a twist, where everyone thinks that there will be stash houses or weapons caches in it but in reality it's something small like a picture of Fury's family.

Yes, she is. Has anyone also mentioned she's very attractive too?

Loved the boomerang arrows and "Thanos was right" coffee mug.

The fight scene was kind of underwhelming. Unless she was really pulling her punches, there's no way things would have gone that way for Yelena. Other than that, great episode.

This show has managed the impossible : turn Hawkeye into the most interesting Avenger. Tony Stark is pretty flat in comparison.
I loved the "my job is to hurt people, not help them" line, especially when he said he was sent to hurt the right target by the right people. Combined with his time as Ronin, it shows that left to himself, he's not a good person. Probably the reason why he empathized so much with Natasha Romanov, and why he gave her the way out she was seeking.

My thought halfway through this week's episode (when they're talking about the shot he didn't take):

"This is the 'American Sniper' of the MCU."

Specifically, the scene where the sniper was trying to decide whether or not to shoot the kid.

Shooting someone with an arrow is personal. It connects you to them. There's not a lot of "should I shoot or not?" with Ironman.  Hawkeye doesn't always shoot, and when he does, he doesn't always shoot to kill. When to do so weighs on him. It's much like drawing down on someone with a sniper scope. It brings home that there are real people on the other side of your kinetic exchange - and you'd better be damn sure before you pull the trigger.
