Saw him once at a comic show - he had a line of hundreds and he was doing his best to keep up with autographs and sketch requests. When he saw me (in Nightwing costume), he insisted on taking pictures and told me I was the first he'd seen with "his haircut."

An artist who ranks with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko in terms of influence on comic art.

Also, fark cancer

A great comic book artist for sure. I wish him all the best.

A blood transfusion from Wolverine, Deadpool, Hulk or Sabertooth should take care of that.

...as well as New Teen Titan, Wonder Woman, Avengers, etc. He's about as good as it gets when it comes to comic book artists.

This is one of my favorite pages ever.  Mephisto, MEPHISTO, can't believe he's really going to do it.  Thanks, George.

The guy who did Teen Titans, and Crisis on Infinite Earths, and paved the way for guys like Jim Lee, Joe Maduiera, and others to bring art that defied what the industry had settled into. His work was intricate, and carried great emotion, and with such detail while each character told a story in their bearing, their faces, that it revitalized a generation of comic artists. While Lee and Joe Mad went a more manga influenced route, with larger characters than Perez's packed pages, his style changes to both DC and Marvel readied the market for art that defied the aging formats. His work with Teen Titans alone is worth the attention, but he helped bring a lot of amazing artists along, who saw his pages, and said, "I wanna do THAT!"

I am and have always been a Marvel kid. But his New Teen Titans book grabbed me right from the cover and kept it in my pull list longer than the storylines deserved.

He is great with character and page design, and I was drawn to his action images before I learned to appreciate Kirby.

Farking LEGEND. That's who.

You know, for comics and such.

Met George at a bunch of cons over the last twenty years. Couldn't have been more charming, funny, or engaging. On top of being the greatest comic book artist of his generation, he's just a damn great guy. My username is inspired, in part, by his creation (with Marv Wolfman) of the Nightwing identity for Dick Grayson.

Here's to you, Mr. Pérez.

I've bought a lot of lame comics just because I saw his name as artist.  Legend.  Fark cancer.

That's too bad. The George Perez/Kurt Busiek Avengers run isn't what got me into comics back in the day but it was definitely one of the most memorable comics I was reading at the time.

Just realized that with both Crisis on Infinite Earths and Infinity Gauntlet that the nicest man I've ever met is responsible for drawing the highest number of deaths in comic history...farking legend!

Like others have said, I met him on two different occasions over the years. The line for his table went into the next time zone but he barely his left chair and drew as many table sketches as people requested and signed anything he was presented with good nature. It is true if he saw one of his beloved characters in costume he made sure to get a picture. A cool guy who really looked like he enjoyed meeting those who loved his work.

Sad he is on this path but what a legacy he has.

Put him in charge of your treatment, George. A task force, if you will.
