Is this the same local news industry that had the brilliant idea of making you pay to get a paper delivered that was already paid for by advertisements? And then makes you buy a subscription to read online content that is also full of ads?

Maybe with all that double dipping they could have set aside some money for leaner times.

I wish the article went into any detail at all about the "why" and the actual effects of sites like Google and Facebook on newspapers.  I'm just not getting a clear picture from Axios.

This is a case of "customer sues vendor, because vendor product is expensive".

Correct response should be laughter.  Go build you own ad network if you want to be the one getting the revenue.
