I eagerly await Marjorie Taylor-Greene and Lauren Boebert taking crayon in fist and explaining how this is like giving Jesus a nut-check with a hammer-and-sickle.

It's a tough decision.

If you let a mother spend time off work with pay to spend time with their newborn child you're running the risk that communism will set in and she might start expecting other insane things like healthcare and a school where her children won't get shot at.

Did I say tough? I meant simple.

I got 6 weeks paid and 6 weeks unpaid and that's generous as hell for the US.
Most daycares don't even take babies younger than 6 weeks old.

I think that's about what my wife got. I of course got jack shiat but I had enough sick days saved up for a couple weeks.

Looking back, I kinda wish I'd saved that time for later. Newborns don't really do anything and my wife was already up and trying to clean her hospital room 24 hours after her C-section.

It can be any mother right?

I'm not seeing any moms right now but I am sure I could open my schedule a bit for this important occasion.

Moms are hot.

I didn't comment because I've never heard of "birthing person" and assumed it was just another krazy konservative konspiracy.

Start having Half a day caring about obscure stuff then switch at Noon?

I figured. I want them to say it out loud. We're well past the point that we should be allowing people to say sneakily bigoted things without making them say what it is they're actually saying.

The reason for that mortality rate is because of red states like Mississippi (worst in the USA and any developed nation).  You know, the state in the SCOTUS right now attempting to overturn Roe V Wade as infants and mothers die in their homes and in front of hospitals because they don't GAF.  It's barbaric.

2021-12-07 5:02:14 PM
I'm probably too cynical and just overthinking, but I can't help but wonder if this push toward maternal health is the only move the Dems have up their sleeve for when Roe v Wade is overturned in the near future. "Well, ladies, you're stuck birthing the little goblin, but we'll do what we can to keep you from dying as a result." Let's hope step 1 in their plan to improve maternal health isn't 'Be rich and White.' like it has been for so long.

Don't get me wrong, maternal health is a huge deal, and needs to be addressed; I'm lucky to be alive after my prenatal misadventures... the timing just feels weird to me.

So acknowledging that human beings are gestated and born by the female half of our species is transphobic? Feel free to call yourself whatever you want but I thought the science was settled on how babies are made. Guess not.

Didn't the House pass a reproductive rights bill? I know there's one in the works.

If Roe fails and Congress doesn't pass it, set them all on fire. They cannot be allowed to keep failing the American people this way.
