Here's how his colleagues thought of him.., here he is sitting in the Senate in a wheel chair on death's door as his Republican brothers vote down a treaty on disabilities. These are such great people.

Disgusting fark headline ,,, and not funny at all, He gave up the use of his arm while serving in the 10th Mountain Division in northern Italy in WWII. I'm a Democrat and rarely agreed with his political stances, but I can still honor his service and sacrifice. And subby can go fark himself.

He served honorably and with distinction whilst he wore the uniform. This country owes him a debt of gratitude for his time in service wearing the uniform.

As an elected Republican politician, he was a lying, scheming asshole who supported policies that hurt many Americans.

See. We can do two things at once.

The Senate has failed to ratify an international treaty intended to protect the rights of those with disabilities, as a bloc of conservatives opposed the treaty believing it could interfere with U.S. law.
The Senate voted 61 to 38 to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities, a tally that fell short of the two-thirds needed to sign on to an international treaty.
. . .
But the treaty has split Republicans. Among its most vocal supporters were Republican war veterans, including President George H.W. Bush and former senator Bob Dole, who was injured in World War II and made a rare return to the Senate floor Tuesday to observe the vote and lend his stature.

I didn't particularly like Bob Dole, or Bush the Elder, but the WWII generation were not as cynical and dishonest. There were some racist SOBs in their midst but I think they were much better because they acted like adults, not entitled children.

He was a big Trumper in 2016, iirc. Trump repays loyalty, so there probably would have been a state funeral to rival Lincoln's.

The WWII generation did act more like adults, not like the spoiled children, Gaetz, Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene and their ilk who are just as racist or more but impossible to reason with. The latter are beyond cynical and are playing a wholly destructive game. The former could compromise for a greater good.

Yesterday I saw this on the Fox News website.

Fox found 3 pundits who pointed out that Dole supported Trump or as I would call it put party over his own country. This is an outrage...or maybe it's a fair point.

Biden didn't hesitate to express his condolences and Pelosi has ordered the flag over the Capitol to fly at half-staff.

We all remember how Trump didn't want to lower the flag for McCain. We all remember how Trump denigrated not only John McCain, but also Barbara Bush after they had passed.  At least we should remember that.

Full disclosure: I voted for both Dole and McCain for President, but voted against Trump and will probably never vote Republican ever again.  In retrospect, Clinton and Obama were probably better choices anyway.

Well, that was a war started by Democrats so we kinda own it.  I'm sure that with every German he shot, he cursed the Democrats for putting him there.

WWI, WWII, korea and Vietnam.  Every war started by the Democrats.  Wonder how he spec'd out Desert Storm I, II and Afghanistan.   "If only Jimmy Carter had the guts to OPEC, there wouldn't be these costly Middle East Wars."  Kinda works.

We're not talking about his service. We're talking about what a shiat statesman he was. Also, not all politicians are liars.

Because anyone who's seen the movie knows how "glamorous" it makes drugs look but that didn't stop Bob from being as publicly wrong about it as his job would allow.

WW1 and WW2 were not started by Democrats or any other Americans.    Hell, you were barely involved in WW1.

Right, because anyone who serves is sainted and gets a pass for all the vile stuff he does thereafter.  Dole was a disgusting sack of shiat at least as far back as the Nixon administration, and he stayed that way right up to the day he snuffed it.

And he can still be a lying, opportunistic blob of floating feces.  A person/object being more than one thing is a concept most learn early in mental development, often in elementary school.  Someone can be both a father and a son, as well as an employee, a friend, and a murderer.  And they can be all of those things at once.

Funny concept, I know.

Yeah! Absolutely disgusting!

Also it's plagiarized the same headline I submitted for John McCain!

Are you kidding me? This is the generation that fought against civil rights, that burned crosses, that victimized brown people. And don't get me started on how they treated women. I know not all of them. Enough of them that we're still fighting this crap. Racism isn't okay just because it's quiet. Discrimination and sexism aren't okay just because no one talked about them. They weren't better than us just because you choose to selectively view our history.

They're also the ones who fought for civil rights, had crosses burned on their lawns (and worse), etc. If you think all social progress in this country was accomplished by their kids, you've swallowed too much Baby Boomer propaganda.
