Republicans are passionately in love with Trump's shamelessness. He has killed shame. Many Republicans in government seem shameless, but if pushed, really, really pushed, they will concede their statement or their plan or their vote may have been ill-conceived or lacked proper understanding of the current circumstances. This will never happen to Trump. He is a psychopath; he is extremely mentally ill and he will not feel shame, under any circumstances, and no one can make him.

trump is a karen, and he speaks to the mindset of other karens.

The entitlement, the egotism, and the cruelty.

They would burn the world to the ground just to "win" an argument.

Someone here mentioned cults are like a giant cheese wheel, and if the only tool you have is a cheese cutter, it takes a while to peel back the layers of cheese until it's slowly (and eventually) no more.  I suppose that's one way of going at it, but there are so many other ways of quickly making cheese look, taste, and smell like crap, no matter the size; we just don't seem to be using them.

Heaps of right-wing bullshiat endures even though there's plenty of evidence it's wrong. For centuries right-wing anti-Semites have rallied around conspiracy theories that the world is controlled by Jews. For over a hundred years they've proclaimed that the US Civil War wasn't about slavery or racism. In recent decades they've constantly cried that the gay agenda is to destroy families, that every single move to implement evidence-based gun control means the guvmint will take all their guns and that the feminist agenda is to destroy families, oh wait I've confused that with the gay agenda, it's all so hard to keep track of the crap. Their attitudes to modern issues like COVID and climate change are extremely predictable in this context too.

Trump is just a new take on some classic hits as far as they're concerned. He says what they want to hear - specifically that they're right, their enemy is THOSE people OVER THERE and he's on their side. Evidence means nothing, they just lap up the feelings. Which is just pathetic because of course they know that people with feelings are the problem - they never shut up about fark your feelings - but they're blind to the irony.

What I'm saying is that these people are farking morons who can't see that the Republican Party is milking them.

Because his supporters have severe mental problems.

2021-12-07 8:06:10 AM
Why would they stop when there are no consequences for it? They act like assholes and get everything they want.

There's no reason for them to stop, from their perspective. Maybe if someone actually started holding them accountable and showing negative consequences...but that would be partisan and mean. And that's how they win.

Because Donny is good for the News' bottom line?

Because it's a death cult?

Because people who should know better doubled-down on the Big Lie?

Because people want a comforting lie far more than they want a difficult truth?

2021-12-07 8:15:47 AM
I think the author is too quick to accept the premise that the voters believe the Big Lie. I don't know if they do or not. At this point I don't know if conservatives even have an internal monologue. What I do know is if pushed with sufficient facts you can get most conservatives to say it doesn't matter if a given lie is true as long as it upsets a liberal. Is that true? Also a lie?

Does it matter? The author understands it doesn't with regard to the politicians but thinks the voters aren't engaging in kayfabe themselves. I don't know. I waffle on the subject. It's more fun and engaging to think of the enemy as a fellow human with motivations I can understand, but that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

Talking to a Republican gives you no clue as to what their thoughts and motivations are. They're making noises with their word holes to provoke whatever reaction amuses them at the moment and nothing more.

2021-12-07 8:16:15 AM
Why?

Because he's a con man who tells them exactly what they want to hear.

Isn't it obvious?

Yeah but it's symbiotic. He feeds their righteous indignation. They turn up and vote. The GOP are out there just stepping on political rake after political rake. They had dozens of opportunities to throw off that yoke and they didn't because...oh yeah, you said it

People have this idea that a con artist is a smooth talker who wins over his victims with elaborate head games.  In reality, con artist strategy is much simpler.  You simply compliment the mark and tell them what they want to hear.  Talk radio has mastered this for decades.  The essential position of the talk radio host to his listeners is "You listen to me, so that means you're smart, and also listening to me makes you even smarter."  It's a feedback loop that draws and holds the follower.  Now you can grift them.  First compliment, then grift.  That's the strategy here.

Do Trumpy Republicans believe their own bulls--t? Or is it all performance? Or can they even tell the difference anymore?

No they don't, and yes they can.

Said this before, but anyway:

You can see this in how they argue.

When they actually have facts that support their stance they will reliably cite them and stick to them. When using facts they are also more than capable of going through opposing facts for issues or interpretations. Gun control is often a good example, but it crops up a lot elsewhere too.

When they're relying on bullshiat they won't attempt to defend it beyond a very cursory first pass. They know their argument has no factual basis so won't try to defend it on one, they'll jump straight to whattabouts, as-homs and so on to either change the subject or accuse their opponents of the same thing so they're on the defense instead. Even in these cases though - if their opponent makes a factual error, misstatement, etc they're also all over it in a heartbeat - this brings them back into "facts are useful" territory, but to do this they need to know which things are actually facts.

They are 100% aware of when they're pushing bullshiat, they just do not draw any moral or intellectual distinction between truth vs lies. The value of any statement or position is solely dependent on whether it is useful in the moment.

For example the election bullshiat - the same Republican legislators who have spent a year screaming about the ballots being fraudulent are 100% sure of the accuracy of their own elections on those same ballots and have dismissed any suggestions they get audited also.

Trump Derangement Syndrome in a post-Trump world.

2021-12-07 8:35:04 AM
America was founded and designed with the intention that it always be run by a very small number of propertied white people.
Today, America is owned and run by a very small minority of propertied white people - maybe 2-3 % of the population, tops.
The rest of you are here to do what you're told and take what you're given. Work counts for nothing - ownership for everything.
That's your reality, and if you don't wish to live under it, you will have to forcibly change it.

Totally.  These libs are deranged.  They think Donald Trump makes things up.  So deranged.

Just yesterday, a big guy came up to me.  Huge guy.  They tell me he was the biggest anyone had ever seen!  Tears in his eyes.  He said to me "Sir, the libs are trying to cancel Christmas.  Christmas is canceled."  I said to him "Santa, we're not gonna let that happen."

Because that would require the GOP to have some ideas? Their mo has been screaming no to any and all progress in this nation while also rolling back the progress of the last century.

While that may appease the rabid base, it doesn't do much for the majority who would prefer to see things like expanded Healthcare, safe drinking water and the ability to improve their lives.

The GOP has no ideas for the future of America outside of its destruction in their quest for holdinh on to power. They are a cancer and we held off and continue to deny treatment for too long.
