I had an Amiga. I still remember it very fondly.  It was one of those things where if you had one, you were in love with it. I was in love with it. Though I'm not one of those crazy people still using one.

If you aren't familiar with it, you should read about it. In the hands of anyone besides Commodore, it would've been HUGE.  It was still pretty popular, just not in the United States.

Commodore had the *worst* marketing department, and the worst management. Just pathetic. They were ahead of the industry by at *least* 5 years with the Amiga, and they utterly blew it.

I always thought there were some things actors wouldn't do just for the money. I stand corrected.

I had one of these.  It had a built in BASIC interpreter.  Since we were allowed to use calculators during math tests in college, I wrote a program that would add, subtract, multiply and divide matrixes.  I aced Algebra III because of that little computer.  I did something similar for Statistic the next year but I still only managed a B.

I doubt that even if they had the marketing that it would have mattered. The IBM PC had a feature which IBM had not thought through: Microsoft did the operating system and Intel made the chips. This allowed other companies to make IBM clones at a discount price and make innovations of their own. And thus it became the standard platform because of IBM's mistake and not because of superiority or marketing.  If Commodore had made that mistake and IBM, etc has not we would probably be using the descendants of the Amiga today.

I can credit the PS/2 for starting me on my geek journey.  I was gifted one when my Apple ||c blew up but had to figure out how to get a modem working on it.  I was too broke to get it repaired but I figured out how to replace it.  I'm still wrenching on machines to this day.

Cloning the Amiga would be rather difficult given the number of proprietary ASICs used in its chipset. IBM purposely avoided using anything other than bog standard components available from multiple suppliers.

The TRS 80 Pocket Computer included a calculator as well.  I was just taking advantage of all it's features.  I was well within the constraints the professor laid out.

I had an Amiga 2000 and loved it and yes so far ahead of it's time, iirc it was the guts for many of the real video games in the arcades, the port of Gauntlet was spot on, multitasking before the IBM or Mac.
