It's not too late, you can still vote for me and end all of this

Now that's how to build a campaign platform

Too late. Reform needed to be front and center in 2016. Trump winning that election pretty much set us up on this road away from democracy.

2021-12-06 6:46:23 PM
The simplest thing we could do is GOTV and keep the Democrats in power, but noooooooooooo......

2021-12-06 6:46:24 PM
1. Get rid of right wing moderators
2. Get rid of right wingers full stop
3. Enjoy nice things

Easy solution. Round up trump voters, send them to idaho - nazi state - and close it off.

2021-12-06 6:48:02 PM
Ok, so institutional and civil resistance.  Also, getting rid of the Globalists, the coastal elite, and of course anyone who's not a Real American.

2021-12-06 6:48:34 PM
Two steps:

1) Stop tolerating morons.  The currently emboldened ones will crawl back under their rocks if they're simply confronted EVERYWHERE they go.  The really belligerent ones are small enough in number that the prison system can handle them.

2) Stop tolerating evil.  When someone tells a dangerous lie - like convincing morons to avoid vaccinations and masks during a pandemic - charge, try, and imprison them.  Or drag them out of Fox studios and beat them to death in the streets, either or.

The last time a meteor killed over half of the life on the planet, it left fossils. We need something larger to finish the job. Future intelligent species have no reason to be burdened with our species, even in fossil form.

We just had national elections a year ago, and we've had a few since.   That's a pretty obvious demonstration the democracy is working fine.

Democrats losing an election, doesn't mean the democracy ended.

If you believe steps should be taken to ensure Republicans should never be elected....that's pretty much the opposite of democracy.

Is it by daily going on social media and saying everything bad Republicans do is the fault of Democrats?

Step 1. Start applying the law equally and in a timely matter.

Step 2. Not all the money need to be spend on the military.

End of List

Nope, your done. Trump showed just how rotten the country really is and those people do not want to change, they do not want to make it better for all Americans.

2021-12-06 7:12:30 PM
And if you think January 6th means our democracy is in trouble, here's what happened that day:

A bunch of random idiots went into the capitol building and accomplished nothing except getting themselves arrested.

No change of power was delayed, no election was at threat of being turned over.  Nothing at all affecting our democratic process was done.

I get it, Trump and some other politicians SAID some things you disagree with.  That is exactly how it's supposed to work in a democracy.

So the party that just swept national elections is advocating ending a norm in the legislative process that's existed since the beginning of the country to ram through it's agenda.

It's also simultaneously trying to tell you it's political opposition is "dangerous" and should be silenced.

Yeah, it's totally republicans that sound like fascists

I mean, shiat is a pretty big mess right now, but you're right. We still have enough checks and balances that kept it from being all thrown away on jan. 6th.   if a president and all his cronies couldn't overthrow the government, then i guess that gives me some kind of small hope for the future.

My real hope is that if conservatives can be roundly defeated in more elections over the next decade, maybe conservatives will change their tune somewhat.

Oh honey.  Never changing is a staple of conservatism.  If they lose at the polls they won't change, they'll claim fraud and start shooting people.

That article was a great example of saying everything and nothing at the same time. Mass civil disobedience isn't going to do jack shiat when fascists will simply crack your skulls, mace you, and then carry you off in an unmarked vehicle "for your own safety", and then brag about it on Twitter afterwards.

Some people have said some things you disagreed with.  Then an election happened.  Then some people said some other things you disagreed with.  And elections continued happening.

That is how it's supposed to work.

getting rid of Fox News, OAN and stopping misinformation would go a long ways

2021-12-06 7:29:36 PM
I could word salad the hell out of this topic, so I will do my best not to.

I do not share the author's optimism that Blue America will successfully Shut. Down. Everything. if the republicans seize power.

However, they are correct that the Ds have to win every race they can. There should not be a single seat left unchallenged, from District Attorney to dogcatcher.

Follow the model set by activists in VA and GA. Focus on local challenges, and ignore cultural war bait, to swing skeptical centrists. Register every voter you can. Keep track of registration purges. Sue the GOP over every electoral foul. Put marijuana legalization on the ballot.

RCV would help a lot. Extremists don't do so well when there are other options.

So the brakes on my car don't work, but see how I'm able to gently roll to a stop while driving up an incline? A mechanic would just be a waste of time and money at this point.

Saving democracy is a lot simpler than that. Try the plotters of the Insurrection who sought to overthrow the Republic, and hang those convicted from the neck for treason. Then go after their funding sources, and send them to prison for criminal conspiracy.

Exactly.  The totally unfascist thing to do to save democracy would be eliminate the first amendment.

Everybody knows having freedom of speech Ian's press is undemocratic.

Yeah -- steps like one person, one vote. That's the one the Republicans feel will end them for good.

2021-12-06 7:44:35 PM
One easy step:

Have AOC and Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and Ilhan Omar put out a PSA that reminds people not to hit themselves in the heads with hammers. Liberals are telling you the science is clear: DO NOT hit yourself in the head with a hammer. It'll really trigger liberals if you do. In fact, we may have to make a law against hitting yourself in the head with a hammer.

Every Republican will be dead of self-inflicted hammer injuries by morning and democracy will be saved. The IQ of the nation will rise considerably too, and taxes will go down since we won't be shelling out for all those red stater welfare queens.

^^^
This^^^ -- this is what it all really boils down to -- some Americans don't really believe in the spirit of their own democracy.

It was too late the instant the first plane hit the North Tower, TBH.  Maybe the moment they decided not to attempt to prosecute Nixon after his resignation announcement. We've made a lot of compounding mistakes in the last 60 years, in our greed, pride, & ignorance.

You can feel the desperate desire in your heart that we at least stop making those mistakes, perhaps even slow down a little... but that's a lot like the impulse to lift your foot off the gas after your car is already upside-down & airborne.

And we're still not going to do it.
