Unfortunately the invaders on January 6th were not subjected to heavy machine gun fire.

For those not in the know, "Operation Overlord" was the official name for "D-Day". That's from way back when the majority of Americans actually opposed, violently, fascism. We're just lucky no one found out about FDR's emails.

Can't find it, but there was some memo sent to the Pentagon that explicitly forbade any research or intelligence gathering specific to people who planned to attend the rally, in the month leading up to it.  The memo also forbade any sharing of existing information with other agencies.

Sending that well in advance of 1/6 sure smells like a planned act intended to make any seditious acts more likely to succeed.

You mean when the folks who arrived chartered busses and private planes, wearing mass produced t-shirts and hats with their slogans while posting for social media about how thrilled they were it was finally happening, it wasn't a spontaneous conflagration?

Behold my shocked face.

Guess what?  the Jan. 6 Capitol storming was part and parcel of a planned coup.  There are statements, documents, video.  Thank god the planners/plotters of this coup were so cowardly that hey hid behind and let halfwit and quarterwit disloyal farks do all their soldiering.

The fact that the whole thing was drawn up, planned so stupidly and cowardly does not negate the fact that the whole thing was drawn up and planned.

Anyway, what are we supposed to do with all this evidence littered all over the place?

With this sort of high-level coordination, it sure seems that the smartest thing to do is to immediately, on day one of your term, telegraph that you are going to prosecute everyone even tangentially involved, because surely nothing bad could come from publicly announcing your investigative intentions nor would there be any blowback from powerful people who are attempting to cover their tracks.

We're supposed to hang the plotters, but I suspect we're so soft that we'll just let them try again and again until they end our democracy.

I didn't realize people didn't know that.

Operation Fortitude and Operation Mincemeat were part of the Information Operations to disguise the target location and timing of Operation Overlord.

M.I. actually cannot target US persons. If such a memorandum went out it was correct, and the military had no place doing such investigations.

That said the FBI should have been doing those investigations, and once they determined that there was a threat service members should have been in place to support the Capitol police and repel the attack.

Also to "detain for further processing" any unlawful combatants they managed to capture.

Minor point, but the bible itself wasn't upside down - it just looked that way because Trump held it like a prop, rather than a book to be read (and you can't say a total unfamiliarity with books is off-brand for him)

He holds it not as a book of holy scripture but as a badge of authority - it's the same pose we often see cops and FBI agents showing their badges to a crowd as they gather attention in TV shows and movies.

\Yes, I know it's pedantic, but what actually happened is bad enough we don't need to imagine it worse.
\\See also: the "pee tape" in which he watches as prostitutes urinate on a bed, to because President Obama had slept in it.  It's about Trump being a disgusting racist and employing prostitutes, not him being into watersports.

Arguably using the bible as a badge of authority for illegally seizing people and gassing non-violent protestors, and having police officers attacking the press directly, as the farking PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES is worse than simply holding a bible upside down.

Well, he did win *four elections* and served for over a decade. I'm pretty sure he must've rigged those to win, because a President can only be elected twice and serve two-terms.

It's a fate worse than any punishment the government could give them, which is why Merrick Garland understands it's punishment enough.

No, the law is not lax.

The normal criminal code is lax.

High crimes are their own category of criminal law and for some farked up reason the Dems are continuing the GOP's use of the Criminal Code. High crimes have different standards of evidence because of the unique powers of people who can commit high crimes.

It has been very clear, for a long time: The 1/6 attack consisted of a great majority of morons stumbling about being morons, with a minority of dedicated, focused terrorists who were being helped by traitors on the inside of Congress and the White House and the Pentagon who sabotaged security.

The morons should get jail time. The focused terrorists need to be put alone in solitary until they reveal the names of the traitors on the inside. The traitors on the inside need to be hanged and their bodies left hanging.
