I do not envy whomever takes that job.  Eating this season is bad enough but with the Ekman-larsson contract, the botched roster and the apparent regression of their top stars....oof.

Saw the highlights v. TB; they got run out of the building.

/Meanwhile: 6 wins in a row for the Blueshirts~!

I had honestly forgotten he was still coaching.

Boudreau is gonna hold all the practices across the street at Costco so he can hit up the samples

I was there for the game. It was embarrassing. I was actually hoping TB would get the shutout, would've been nice for Moose to get a SO against his former team.

Are they going to put the Sedin twins in charge so everyone can hate them too?

For a period of time, the Canucks were really good. That was years ago.

Those poor fans.

The good news: JT Miller and Conor Garland are having very good seasons so far for them.

The bad news: you aren't going very far if your two top scoring forwards are JT Miller and Conor Garland, and JT himself seems to know that given how many times on-ice mics pick him up randomly screaming "FAAARK" throughout a game.

Yes, interesting filter.

Anyway, with Spezza having an in-person hearing, he's likely being suspended.
I still don't know how serious Sandin's injury is, but if he's out for a while, both Lilljegren and Dermot will both be in requiring a shuffle of the D pairings.

No hearing for the referee who dare gave Connor McDavid a five-minute major for boarding with six minutes left in a 2-1 game last night?

Laughed when they had to take the ref's call to review, surprised when they tossed McDavid out.

/Oilers were in playoff form last night

Last night was a farking gong show.  Zebras did a great job of doing nothing until it was too late.

I saw the clip. It was the right call. There wasn't any intent, he didn't mean to get him like that; but it was right in the numbers and it was boarding all day, every day. It's the type of hit they've been trying to take out of the sport for years.

It's not suspension worthy, but it's a hit that can't happen.

It was also like here's what some hockey fans have been complaining about refs not doing -- making the right call and assessment, calling late-game penalties, on star players, on those kind of hits -- but then hear a nobility gasp and how dare theys as it happens to THE star player in his home arena (especially one north of the border).

This shoulda been done years ago.

But what's done is done. I have a feeling that the real cancer behind the team is not management, but ownership.

Noted Canucks fan The Hockey Guy noted that he felt firing Benning wouldn't fix that much two weeks ago:

I guessed me.  I could probably do just as badly, for less money.  The difference is that I wouldn't want to help Vancouver, even accidently

The owner should be too busy shopping for his next wife to be inferring with the team.

Yes, but you'd think they could at least have paid attention to Bergevin's... erm... remarkable career when he was in Montreal until (checks notes) a week ago.

I heard or read somewhere that the locker room is divided, so if that's true, somebody needs to be traded.

Well, the new-coach is happening: Vancouver leading LA 4-0 with a couple of minutes to go. Two power play goals, including one from Boeser.

I meant to write "new-coach bounce"  - similar to the dead-cat bounce it's a statistical glitch that makes a team look better than they actually are. Either players are putting in more effort to secure a better position on the team, or they feel bad for what happened and want to try harder, or because they are in a bad situation their opponent doesn't think they need to put in a good effort.

In my group of friends we don't even bother to call it a new-coach bounce, we just call it a dead-cat bounce.  This may have something to do with all of us being Detroit Lions fans.

For what it's worth, their namesake in the CFL, the BC Lions, had a similarly lame season this year.
