The Hall of Fame is still late on Dick Allen.

Good.

Minoso was voted in too.

Badmoodman: The Hall of Fame is still late on Dick Allen.

Literally every baseball writer I follow on Twitter couldn't get over Allen missing the cut by 1 vote

He's in. Came out today, as part of a different election process.

Minoso was voted in too.

Dick Allen, a former AL MVP with the White Sox, fell short by one vote of election by the committee.

Does that voting group ever see the people who "don't vote for anyone" some years to prove a point and would have been part of the short vote count?

His plaque better be him smoking and juggling.

Many thanks to Drew & the mods for putting this news on the Main page. Buck O'Neil is a national treasure & absolutely deserves enshrinement in Cooperstown.

Here's Buck with David Letterman. I was trying to find some interviews he did with Jim Rome, but this will do.

Bucky Dent?

Are the HR King, and Hit King in it yet? Or is it still the Hall of Not-Quite-The-Best-But-Likeable-By-Journalists-And-Sportswriters ?

fark Pete Rose. Pete Rose sucks. He killed Mario Soto's career because he had money on the last game of the year, and he voluntarily accepted a deal where he wouldn't be eligible for the hall of fame in exchange for baseball not looking into his gambling any further.

If he wanted to be in, he shouldn't have voluntarily accepted a deal where he can't get in.

Yes, Josh Gibson is in the Hall...

They should have put him in despite the agreement. Infamy is Fame as well

He doesn't look quite that good anymore.

I'd like to think this means the Modern Era committee follows suit and gets Lou Whitaker in there.  Not sure if they vote next year. Dwight Evans too.

There will be a ton of drama in this years regular ballot.

Last year for Schilling, Bonds, Clemens and Sosa.  Sosa's got no shot, but Schilling was above 70 and the other two above 60 last time.

A pretty strong class of first timers may complicate their quest for enough votes.  A-Rod should get in immediately, David Ortiz will get a ton of support even if it's not quite enough to get in first time, and several others I could see surviving to year two.

He should have been. Also, fun factoid from KC Royals Kauffman stadium.

It is his season ticket seats from when he attended games. It's kinda rare that I get to celebrate my city.

Yes, Josh Gibson is in the Hall...

And Ichiro Suzuki isn't eligible yet, but he is a sure bet first ballot entry.

Buck O'Neill had a great quote about watching Bo Jackson taking batting practice for the first time. "The last time I heard a bat sound like that, Babe Ruth was hitting."

I am wearing a t-shirt with a picture of Josh Gibson on it right now. Nobody has ever known who he was.

What a great guy. He was all over Ken Burns' Baseball, IIRC.

Buck O'Neill should've been in long ago when he was still alive. It's a disgrace the HOF took this long to finally do it.

That cartoon napkin really exists? I thought it was made up for the first episode of Cheers.

Then get the Fark out. He will never make the Hall, and rightly so.

It's ironic for Lefty O'Doul to fall short in the year a two-way player who's a baseball hero in Japan won the MVP.

Even Pete would plunk a few on GTFO to win.

I always thought Pete Rose should open a restaurant near the Hall of Fame, and the theme should be stuff that is irritating to the baseball establishment.

ChrisDe: Why did I assume he was already in?

When he missed inclusion (after the great impression he made in Ken Burns' documentary) the Hall set up a life-sized likeness of him, etched in lucite, so everyone who walked in would be "greeted" by him.
I look forward to his having his bronze plaque, but I hope they don't lose the statue.

2021-12-06 3:31:21 AM
I figured Gil Hodges was already in.

I knew Buck wasn't, because baseball people are assholes.

Pete Rose would be in if he hadn't spent 20 years lying and being an insufferable prick about what he did and then only coming clean to sell books.

He stopped the lying. He's still an insufferable prick.

That was my initial fear as well.

Not while he remains alive, he won't.

Buck O'Neil deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, and it's a god damned travesty they didn't do it while he was alive.

He should have had the chance to make a speech, even if it was just "thank you".

Buck O'Neil was chosen to speak for the Negro League players inducted into the hall of fame after the last comprehensive search for worthy players. It is a great speech.
