As a Lions fan, I am suitably equal amounts of happy and disappointed.

On the one hand, they could have had the worst season ever, in the most Lionsy way ever with a tie to mar the actual perfection, but at the same time, I always want them to win.

Oh... and that game was classic Lions Lionsing up the game, requiring a perfect touchdown play with 4 seconds left on the clock after giving the Vikings the lead late in a game they otherwise dominated in.

Vikings fan here, and I'm not even surprised.   At least this should be the last nail in our HC's coffin.

If it makes you feel any better, the Seattle Mariners lost a game this year to a walk off 2-run homer to the first batter in extra innings.

Good for them. If they had any luck they'd have 4-5 wins right now. They really are better than their record indicates.

MLB stepped in to cushion the blow of today's loss.  Jim Kaat and Tony Oliva are now in the Hall of Fame.

they almost "lioned" it with the head coach calling for them to go for it on 4th down in the last few minutes on their own 30 and not getting it.  Taking chances is one thing, but the odds of them winning probably would have been higher if they punted and make them drive the whole field.

He's been doing that all year and doesn't seem to learn from those mistakes.

Ugh, I really don't know how to feel about the runner on second in extras, it was fine for 2020 I guess, but...blah

That was true for the first couple games, it had not been since then. The fact they won today without DeAndre Swift (best player on the team, RB who can catch like crazy too), is just shocking.

I'd like to think this gives them some momentum (like the opposite of how the talent got sucked out of them after those first couple last minute losses), but Dan Campbell is a clown, and will keep this shiat up. Gimme Jim Schwartz again over this idiot.

Detroit stunned the NFC North rival Vikings on Sunday, with Jared Goff firing an 11-yard touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown as time expired to lift the Lions over Minnesota, 29-27, claiming their first win of the 2021 season.

So this required intervention from (a) god, is what you're saying.

The only NFC North team to win this week!

I'm not a statistics major or actuary, but according to an article I read, the Lions actually had a higher percentage chance of winning by going for 2 yards on 4th down than they did kicking it back to the Vikings with four minutes and all three timeouts left.

I know that this is just a result of catching it between the "End 4th" and "Final" parts of the app...but I like to think that the computer saw the score and that it was over and it still thought there was a chance the Lions would blow it.

Dude had a HELL of a game today. I think he was their second overall pick last year behind Sewell. Also he has a few brothers still in college that are really good, and maybe even his dad played in the NFL too?

Can't wait till he really gets into NFL rhythm so the lions can trade him in 3 years

I called it yesterday. No team can fold in the last 2 minutes of any half like the Vikings can.

"Walk-off touchdown" really shouldn't be used when "last-second touchdown" is much better and doesn't use a baseball term.

His brother Equanemious plays for the Packers, his brother Osiris plays for Stanford, and his father was a competitive bodybuilder who finished top 10 in the Mr. Olympia competition.

I wasn't able to watch the game, but saw the highlights on YouTube.

The roar of the crowd when St. Brown caught that ball had to have been the loudest crowd noise this entire season from anywhere in the league.

Are these stats made by the same people who came up with QBR so they could justify the absurd hype they gave Michael Vick?

And these analytics AFAIK are based on average scenarios, not being the Detroit Lions. Coaches *probably* should remember that.

Football Analytics disagree with you.

Also - he was crucified for NOT going for it against the Bears last week.

I'm pretty sure that if you lose to the Lions at least one person on your roster or coaching staff have to perform seppuku.

Glad for the players that they didn't go winless.  But now it's easier to pile on the criticism of the organization as a whole and the coaching staff how they let the team get this bad in the first place.

No - if they punted, that would have guaranteed a loss. You don't have to "drive the whole field" to kick a field goal.

I don't know - they do just walk off and don't kick the PAT when they score as time expires so that seems reasonable to me.

But I keep hearing that Zimmer is a defensive genius. Nobody could possibly have come up with a scheme to prevent a winless team with no timeouts from marching the length of the field with 1 minute left for a touchdown.

I am a Packers fan and there is nothing more satisfying then watching the Purple (and their fans) turn that color with another choke when they should not have.
