Last Man on Earth: Well yeah. Fictional Festivus was pretty abusive too, it was the whole point. The "Airing of Grievances" and "Feats of Strength" were basically their father getting drunk and continuously berating his wife and kids for not being good enough for him until one of them could physically force him to stop. Like a lot of the show, it was a really dark, heavy joke dressed up in traditional sitcom trappings. Audiences might have created their own version and turned it into something that overcomes that origin, but that origin itself is no less screwed up.
