Let's take a second to focus on that last bit. All of this anger, the threats, and silly war of words and doxing is over a free-to-play video game. A pretty fun one too.

I KILL YOU NOW!!!!

That's why I only biatch about video games at the designated time: Once a week during the Fark Gaming thread. That thread alone keeps the lights on for Drew, so we're totally safe.

I suck at Halo, but I'm having fun. If it's missing anything, it's missing an autoaim for people who suck, otherwise if you're biatching about it like this, fark you.

Naw, this one might have caught their eye.  'Cause they're cuddly people that want to stop forum bullshiat behavior?  Did you stop laughing yet?  No?  Ok... now then.  No, it's because it's a politically and socially fairly neutral forum then can flex their "We are doing stuff to prevent bad behavior!" peen at.  Basically it's an actual virtue signaling thing - press to support that assertion and the only cost is annoying some game nerds, vs. for example annoying nazi assholes.  That they're not so keen on until forced, oddly enough

That's not true. I received a warning from Reddit for saying things that were awful about an elected official and was banned from the subreddit and given an official notice from the actual Reddit team not to post that again.

They care, just not about piddling entitled gamer shiat.

The toxicity is unnecessary.
I'll also say that while the gameplay is pretty solid, there are some major problems with how the game deals with progression that are beginning to affect gameplay.  They also dont have the most basic of all multiplayer modes, slayer, and you can't choose which mode you want to play.  This is a problem because you dont really level up from your play ability, but by random challenges that usually tie into a certain game mode.  And you're stuck with that challenge unless you complete it, or pay money to swap it out with another random challenge.  It's too much work to try and do anything fun in this game so I guess I'll wait to see if they change anything later.

I also heard you can't get with a group of friends for multiplayer and just stick with them; that you're shuffled into random other matches at the end.  Which, if true, would royally piss me off and take away from the whole playing with friends aspect.  Can you confirm whether that's the case?

"These forums have gotten really toxic! Look at how they're bullying all the new players still learning the controls!"

"They're noobs, dude. You always get hazed for being a noob. It encourages you to do better."

"Okay, but have you seen all the vile comments directed at female players?"

"That's just teens being teens. If their parents failed to teach 'em any manners, it's not my job to fix it."

"All right, then how about all the hate directed at minorities and immigrants and members of the LGBT+ community? Some of this is straight-up Nazi propaganda shiat!"

"Don't blow it out of proportion. They're using euphemisms and codewords for all the groups they're talking about. Maybe it's not even directed at who you think it is and they're just smack talking other gaming clans. God, you are so reactionary over nothing."

"Oh yeah? Well did you see the stuff they're saying about us and the developers after we announced the latest delays?"

"OH THEY DID NOT JUST GO THERE! I WANT THESE POISONOUS LITTLE SNAKES BANNED RIGHT NOW!!! THIS AGGRESSION WILL NOT STAND!!!"

I'll admit I'm not a big fan of free-to-play in general, but I'm more interested in the campaign than the multiplayer anyway.

That's some nice corporate boot-licking from the Halo reddit and Kotaku. The problem could be framed as fans unsatisfied with a new low in freemium garbage, as they were previously happy to pay full price for a full game, but instead it's framed as those spoiled manbabies being toxic for no good reason. I bet they're doing this because they hate women!
People have been yelling at each other over video games for decades and it was permitted because maybe consumers should have the ability to voice dissatisfaction with a product or just blow off steam because the internet is not real life.

Not sure you know how Reddit works.. People can lock down forums they moderate if they want, they aren't marching by Reddits order, reddit rarely locks down anything except the Donald.  Not sure where this great conspiracy is based after, but then again people who use the dumb term "Virtue Signal" are generally MAGATs so...

Sadly, you're exactly right, and I've done the same.  Even when I play MMO's, I ignore in-game chat, reject all group invites, I never duel, and I don't do any kind of raiding.  I know it makes no sense to be anti-social in games that are built around social interactions and cooperative play, but the people who make those games still operate on the delusion that people have a modicum of respect and decency, and anyone who believes they still do are moobs-deep in make-believe land.

These are the archetypes you're going to get in any multiplayer game from now until the end of time:

1.  The twelve-year-old who think he's the edgiest edgelord who ever edgelorded when he uses the F-bomb every other word and hurls racist epithets at people for no damn reason while playing Fortnite

2.  The sweaty try-hard bro who's going to tell you how amazing he is at the game, barks orders in your ear if you're on his team like he's a Wish.com version of R. Lee Ermey, and tells you you're trash at the game if you happen to kill him in a match (which doesn't make a lick of sense: if he's so good and you kill him, that makes him trashier than you, but...go off, chief).

3.  The "half-calorie" version of the "sweaty try-hard bro" who has spent every single nanosecond of his entire life playing, studying, mastering and living the game you're playing with them and GOD FARKING HELP YOU if you don't know exactly what to do when you're on a raid with him.

4.  The aimbotter/cheater that has the nerve to act offended when someone calls him out for doing exactly what he's doing, or more disgustingly, doesn't give a fark and just keeps doing it and says "It's the devs' fault for making a shiatty game you can cheat in", even though he has to go out of his way to crack every new anti-cheat whenever they're implemented.

5.  The embittered gamer who hangs out in chat and talks about how the game's dead or a "dumpster fire" or "trash" and relentlessly attacks anyone who dares to argue with them, yet can never reasonably explain why they're actively participating in a game they seem to hate so much.

And, notice I said "he" for these, because - let's be real here - the vast majority of people within those categories are guys.  I'm not saying that no women ever do these things, but you are kidding yourselves if you think the scales are anywhere near balanced.

TL;DR:  Playing games online with other people sucks.  If you absolutely have to play games in which other people play at the same time, do yourselves a favor and only play with friends you know and trust.

When being a fan of a product became a replacement for having a personality for some folks. Then any attacks on the product became personal attacks.

Which is dumb but it is what it is.

All gaming fanbases except for niche titles become toxic and the niche titles are typically because anyone who've heard of the games are happy someone else is out there to talk about them (like Fire Pro Wrestling). All fandoms are somewhat toxic and seeing the shiat side of them is pretty easy with the internet, though with gaming you don't have to look too deep for whatever reason. But it's been that way for a while.

Are you a toxic asshole? If you're not, then you're not. It's perplexing to me how that is hard to understand to some people. I'm guessing you are a chill individual. What is acceptable to you? Is getting hassled with n-word slurs or whatever women have to put with on a server something you think it's .... what?

This is exactly why I've been sucked back into Conan Exiles. On the PvC servers you can punch back at anyone who decides to be aggressive, but the size of the map versus number of players mean you can always avoid people.

But, playing and having fun and sucking has always been a riot in FPS games. Sadly, the last few I played were full of very angry people who had no humor when it came to classic positioning farku-ps.

Sometimes everyone is out of place and your team gets beat. Having a fun time while that is happening is being a fan of a game, not shiat-bagging a game you play frequently.

They're not fans in the way that makes sense. If you hate something, move on.

I really enjoy video games but 'Gamers' are among the whiniest most self-entitled arseholes on the planet. Why do they feel that every game must be everything they ever wanted and more?

I've bought some crap games (imo). I have never felt the need to spew vitriol at devs\studios\communities, let alone doxx anyone over it. I chalk it up to experience and move on with my life. I've watched some crap movies too. Don't feel the need to send death threats to studio execs either.

Grow the fark up and get over yourselves FFS.

/lawn. off it.

FutureWars: Oh sure, release an incomplete game that excels only at taking your money but it's the toxic fans who are to blame.

The multiplayer they released is complete and free to play, and is not a broken mess. The part that takes your money is if you want to pay $9 for a Battle Pass to have more things unlock as you progress through the season, and all those unlockables are mostly boring visual armor parts.

The progression is slow and they're working on adjustments to that but the multiplayer game itself is the best they've done in a while.

You certainly can spend a lot of money on cosmetics but that doesn't change the game at all.

Toxic fans losing their shiat because they don't like how slow it is to get new cosmetic parts certainly isn't justified

lilplatinum: Some Junkie Cosmonaut: lilplatinum: Some Junkie Cosmonaut: zbtop: Reddit didn't give a shiat.

The mods of a subreddit had finally had enough.

Reddit itself couldn't care less how toxic people are.

Reddit isn't doing anything, the subreddit moderators are.

Yeah, and I'm sure there's absolutely no attention from Reddit when that happens

Oh see I gotta subtract points - maga accusations after I'd already been talking about nazi assholes just isn't attention to craft

imaconnect4guy: The toxicity is unnecessary.
I'll also say that while the gameplay is pretty solid, there are some major problems with how the game deals with progression that are beginning to affect gameplay.  They also dont have the most basic of all multiplayer modes, slayer, and you can't choose which mode you want to play.

Wtf is "slayer" mode?
