Oh, and I'm going to assume he'll be doing his obligatory "methoding" by acting the jackass while annoying, and/or straight-up harassing the rest of the cast and crew.

I can't imagine (and snark on his idiocy aside, the dude admittedly is an Academy award winner) a studio decision-maker who's worth a shiat approving the guy to play lead a project that high profile. Leto is not puts-butt-in-seats kind of actor. He's a character actor, with a lot of baggage.

Leto as Joker was absolutely a terrible idea.

This doesn't look so bad.

Also, with the Sony universe crossing into the MCU, I have a feeling that this exists to introduce MCU to the Vampires, which were alluded to in Loki, and I guess the Voice of Blade was heard in Eternals.

He must have his fans, but he is enough to keep me away from this movie entirely. I could tolerate him in BR2049 but to have to sit through an entire movie with him as the lead? Especially one this emo and self-serious? No thanks.

When I was watching Eternals I thought I heard someone whisper "fark the IRS", but I was sure it was my imagination.

You and me both, the only reason I went to the theater for BR2049 in spite of him was because it was BR, and sure as shiat, he almost ruined that film.

Think this looks interesting enough to give it a watch eventually, but largely agree on people's take on Leto. Don't blame him for the meth trash version of Joker, figure that one's on Snyder, but Snyder didn't make Leto act like a psychopath toward coworkers.

AFAIK, He's not that kind of vampire.

Morbius is one of my favorite Marvel comic characters.  It must be said that he is not a superhero, he is a horror character, and the best writers knew how to write this aspect of him.  I hope the film leans more towards horror than heroics.

The one and only problem I have with this is Jared Leto. It's a fatal flaw. That and Morbius is a lame character that no one really cares about.

I don't know. Maybe it catches on. Maybe we get a Ghost Rider, Blade, Morbius, Dr. Strange mashup vs The Orb and actually I'd watch that movie. This, though, looks like meh.

What's with the smoke, did they inject him with Pigpen DNA?  The trailer doesn't look bad, but it doesn't make me want to see a whole movie either.  I was a fan of the 70s horror comics, particularly Son of Satan and Werewolf by Night.

The clip actually isn't that bad, but Leto is horrible.

I'm not sure what his appeal is to casting directors either, but his portrayal of the Joker made little to no difference to his career. His weirdo Juggalo Joker drove the comic nerds absolutely nuts, but as far as the industry's concerned, he was part of a movie that was critically panned but made enough money to still earn a sequel, but so many of his scenes were cut, he can't really be credited with the complaints or the financial success. He's more of a background presence. And as for his disgusting behavior on set, none of the crew was angry enough to publicly condemn him for it and drum up sufficient outrage for the studios to consider him a PR liability. The Hollywood system has always been designed to protect its stars (even the minor ones), from facing consequences for their bad behavior, and unless the general public is incredibly upset with someone and very vocal about it, the standard response is no response at all.

He was even asked to briefly play the character again in Snyder's Justice League reshoot, and it didn't appear to hurt the viewer numbers. So sure, plenty of fanboys wanted Leto's Joker to destroy him, but it hasn't hurt him at all.

Still annoyed with how that movie was treated and received when I would give it a solid C - which we all know is still passing. I hope when they actually do introduce the X-Men into the MCU we see some of those character/actor pairings brought over. Yes, obviously Maisie Williams for starters.

It's more like 'Sony owns the character rights and going about their standard 'proprietary' BS plans that keeps biting them in the ass.' See: BetaMax & UMD.

They're willing to make far less on something that's 100% in house, than share with another company and get a cut that's greater than if they went it alone. The MCU Spider-Man collaborations have proven that they get more from joining in the MCU and splitting profits with Disney than if they go it alone. They have the rights to the Spider-Man catalogue of characters, but really the only solid things they get from that IP are Spider-Man and Venom. Possibly Silver Sable and Black Cat, with the recent semi-rise of female-lead action movies (Atomic Blonde, The Old Guard), as long as they get competent people to write and direct.

Shang Chi was probably the real eye-opener for Sony. The MCU made a film that performed as well or better than a movie featuring 2 of the most bankable characters from the IP that Sony has: Venom & Carnage. And that's without Shang Chi getting a release in China (CCP has blocked the film because of a 'hidden' reference to Tienamin Square).

With the post-credit scene in Venom 2 and the rumored  post-credit scene in No Way Home and the fact that Keaton's Vulture is appearing in Morbius, mixing the Sony Spider-Verse into the MCU is pretty much a done deal. Morbius is just a last-ditch attempt to recoup the money sunk into making it. I mean, it's an action-horror film being released in late January/early February, FFS.  They've already written the movie off.

Also, minor spoiler...the MCU already has the gateway for introducing Vampires. The book Wanda gets at the end of WandaVision is the Darkhold; the Marvel equivalent of the Necronomicon. And in the comics, the Darkhold has the ritual that created vampires in the Marvel Universe. Or, at least all mystical vampires, since Morbius is a vampire created by science.

Agreed on that one and Deadpool's Colossus should be brought over as well. I'm hoping they don't use the usual X-cast and mix up the characters a bit so it's not just the ones audiences are already familiar with from the original X-Men films. The one from the New Mutants movie wasn't particularly memorable, but an X-Men team led by Cannonball with misfits like Marrow and Doop would be more interesting than Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, etc, etc.
