Interesting article, but obviously quite a few unanswered questions remain about what went down.

Garlin talks about being "silly" on set with a view to keeping his energy up, which I guess is important for a performer. Obviously his brand of silly isn't to everyone's tastes. But he's an older guy these days and perhaps hasn't kept up with the cultural changes which don't let performers get away with the stuff they used to in the days when stars were allowed to be dicks, it was almost assumed they would be.

It's an unusual PR tactic for a celebrity to admit they've had HR called on them but it might work. I'd have called it too early to call this a "LEERROOOY JEENNKINNS" moment yet but perhaps it is.

I'm with you.  I didn't think it deserved the "creepy" tag either.  There were a few cringe-worthy lines like, "Now, I'm a middle-aged white man, which is not a popular thing right now."  As someone in that demographic, I'll admit to being more cognizant of my words and actions recently, but that's not necessarily a bad thing and being in that demographic surely has more positives than negatives when compared to others.

Also, don't text co-workers about their panties.

The guy is a comedian and a hugger.  Hugging is bad now because of Biden and comedians are bad because they don't bully others, they generally make fun of those in power.  We could be living like the Jetsons right now and instead we're blaming schools for not knowing a kid had a gun.

Personally, I like Garlin's work, I don't know what happened here but he probably should have kept his "funny" little anecdotes of past improprieties to himself.
Having said that, how hard is it for folks, to:

2. Perform said jobs, like professionals.
3. Mind their own f*cking business, leaving other people to their, DON'T HUG 'EM, DON'T KISS 'EM, DON'T SHOW THEM YOUR DICK, DON'T BE A SEX PEST.
4. Go home at the end of the day.

I don't watch this show, but I know this type of guy.  I've had dealings with them for decades.  They say and do crap, and when called out on it, they call their actions anything but the truth.  It's acting silly, just joking, only kidding, and then when told to knock it off completely, the dude begins referring to the subjects as biatches, stuck up hoes, etc.  They may stop speaking or acting inappropriately around the one person that spoke up, but keep right on acting around others, and because no one else is strong enough to put them in check, the guy thinks everything is cool.

Then as time passes, more and more people stop constantly putting up with them and they always blame society for turning on them.  Rather than ever once realizing that they themselves are to blame for pushing people away.  If you want a real life example, think about the MAGAts.  They are constantly blaming everyone in society, the media, politics, etc. when fewer and fewer of their relatives, neighbors, coworkers, or friends want to deal with their tone deaf, and prehistoric, attitudes.

Which part am I wrong about?  Conservatives have proven time and time again they don't like Biden because he's a hugger and their brand of comedy is hitting down at the less fortunate. I also stand by my assertion that we could have flying cars right now if the internet didn't make most of the population dumber.

Not a fan of weed.  While I appreciate the point you're trying to make, I feel the need to point out that my wife's family is full of right wing morons who now hate huggers because of Biden and they were all huggers up until he was elected.  They aren't the only people I know that have changed their opinion on hugging.

This stuff would be largely solved if we just made it 100% okay for women to open-hand-slap the shiat out of any man on set, at any time, for any reason, with no questions asked and no repurcussions. You'd get the occasional undeserved slap, but all-in-all, it would improve things.

2021-12-05 8:57:43 AM
The thing about his character on Curb Your Enthusiasm is he's a horrible person, a cheater, someone who uses his power to take advantage of women.
And it's discussed with zero remorse, which
Is shocking in this day and age.

There was a recent storyline where he says to Larry, rather nonchalantly, "hey, you know my dental hygienist?  Yeah, I think I got her pregnant and she had an abortion!"
So Larry goes to the dentist to try to find out if she did or didn't have an abortion.

They discuss it with his wife in the next room, like it's nothing.
There's never a "Jeff!  You're cheating on your wife!  That's not a good thing!"  No shock or surprise about him getting someone pregnant.  It just is what it is.

Now I know Jeff Garlin is not his character Jeff Greene but it's almost shocking to see it played so... normally!

And I know it's Curb Your Enthusiasm which is far from P.C. but it still surprises me.

He's a comedian, who works on a comedy show. Not everyone can sit around being serious and proper until the camera starts rolling and then just "turn it on."
The writer keeps saying that one workplace is just like any other, and to a certain extent that's true. But it's one thing to not find a joke funny and another to not be able to recognize when a comment is intended to be funny. If you can't do the latter then maybe working on a comedy show isn't the right job for you.

Maybe Garlin needs to change, maybe some people need to Lighten Up Francis. Like most situations, it's probably both.

/ I hereby reserve the right to completely and utterly bury Garlin if something more specific and inappropriate comes to light.

After seeing him on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, I'm not surprised. He seems like the kind of comedian who can't shut up, offering loud and constant jokes in the hopes that a few will get a laugh.  It would be inevitable that some people would find a couple of them offensive.  It's a tough line to gauge from a third-person perspective, whether he's being offensive or just overwhelming.
