Missed the last episode. The intro to the season finale makes about as much sense as usual.

That was fun! Looking forward to the finale.

This whole thing has been a mess. None of the writers or producers should be trusted with professional entertainment jobs again.

Those "lets do a single story that spans the entire season!" things tend to turn into a big mess -- See Torchwood season 3, "Children of Earth" as well.

The first half of the "season" is little more than a jumbled mess of exposition and foreshadowing, with random new characters being followed for no obvious reason while the second half is trying to bring together and tie up three dozen separate storylines all at once.

It doesn't help that the sound mixing was sub-par as well, the voice tracks were way to quiet compared to the background noises.

In my book, this season fell flat and Jodie deserved much better for her final season.

Hey now, when has a season-long story ever gone sideways in Doctor Who?

Hell, even 'Key to Time' was a mixed bag and people have fond memories of that story arc.

Old Doctor Who stories used to be something like 8 or 10 episodes long (probably due to cost saving more than anything) I could see that I remember some Pertwee story starting with something like "chapter 14...." But they were kind of small stakes compared to what we have now.

I just feel like lately they've really pushed too hard on the Doctor saving the entire universe from some giant calamity or some weird unnecessary canonical backstory of the Doctor instead of "oh, here's a weird little mystery on a spaceship".

Which is weird because it seems like the best of modern Doctor Who is the small fry stuff: girl in the fireplace, blink, the van Gogh episode, etc.

Does that even count as season/series long considering the old show's stories already lasted multiple episodes each, which I've always thought they needed to go back to anyway

Too bad the first two season of Jodi run weren't was good as the last.

Not her fault though.

I'll try to compose my thoughts while my head is still reeling from someone saying they thought that "Children of Earth" was a mess.

I loved this season. It was 6 weeks of sustained excitement, high-concept mixed with space dogs, a bang-on cliffhanger after (nearly) every episode, Jodie Whitaker absolutely shining, and what may be the best episode that's been written for her ("Village of the Angels"). The look of the show floored me - it was just gorgeous (sometimes grotesquely so). We got the best male companion since Jamie in Dan, who was a lovable doofus. And it nicely tied up the Timeless Child arc, sealed it in a bottle, and called it good for now. (I like the storyline, and I like that we're moving on to something else.)

My only real disappointment: the teaser for the New Year's special. Spack off.

The Key to Time and The Trial of a Time Lord are more or less individual stories with a linking mechanism than a season-long story (and Flux dipped into that, with "War of the Sontarans" and "Village of the Angels" being fairly divorcable from the rest of the season). Flux might be better compared to The Daleks' Master Plan - and it's about the same length as well (12 20-25 minute episodes). They both have holiday episodes as well!

I won't hear of any complaint of Trial of a Time Lord. It only fell apart at the end when the script editor was canned for not consenting to a rewrite of the final episode, but otherwise it's three solid stories and a half-good two part finale.

Arguably the hottest companion until Karen Gillan.
