So, who is #1 now? Michigan?

Yeah, every team that has beaten Alabama lately should point and laugh at Georgia...

Calling it now:

(1) Michigan will get crushed by (4) Georgia
(2) Alabama will annihilate (3) Cincinnati

And we get to relive SEC hell yet again for the championship.

I think Alabama jumps to #1.  They just beat the #1 team and I don't think the committee can bring themselves to ignore Bama's track record under Saban.  I expect #1 Alabama, #2 Michigan, #3 Georgia, #4 Cincinnati.

It should be 1) Michigan, 2) Alabama, 3) Georgia, and 4) Cincinnati, but the committee won't want to have an SEC rematch in the first round so they'll fudge the order.

Why Georgia gets a spot after just getting pantsed by a playoff team, who knows, but having them play Alabama again in round one would just make it too obvious how silly this whole thing is.

There is no point spread big enough for me to put money on either matchup.

12-1 Alabama beats the team that's been #1 for weeks and you figure 12-1 Michigan should be ranked ahead of them for beating #13?

Boot Georgia out, and put Notre Dame in.

Alabama beat 5 ranked teams this season, Georgia beat 4. Michigan and OSU each beat 3.

That victory over #18 is certainly impressive; a shame the only other ranked team they played beat them.

Oklahoma State shiatting the bed is the main reason Georgia still has a shot.

Big Ten is kind of weak this year overall. Iowa couldn't score on my local high school team if they played each other. Michigan is a solid team, but all the stars have aligned up just right for them this year.

2021-12-05 7:15:57 AM
The committee has crunched the numbers and they simply cannot let a team like Cincinnati into the playoff as their 3rd down conversion success rate when needing between 7 and 12 yards is well below average. Given this glaring weakness in their resume the committee has seeded the teams thusly: 1 Alabama, 2 Michigan, 3 Ohio State, 4 Georgia. The committee believes these seeds represent maximum television revenue the four best teams in college football this season. Cincinnati had a great season and their fans should look forward to their Peach Bowl matchup with Pitt.

Do you know what UGA and sand castles have in common?
They both look pretty good until the Tide comes in.

Saban stacks 5 star players like cordwood. One gets banged up or blows an assignment, he just tosses another one into the game.

Dawgs should have looked better than they did, but Saban has players that are bigger, stronger and faster than any other team (including UGA). Last night it showed.

34-7, jorts man.

Yeah, that was sad. But they were the first team we played this season since Clemson that had our depth. Hopefully, they can learn.

Georgia finished #1 in recruiting in 2018 and 2020 and were #2 in 2019. They have as much quality depth as AL.

I think Michigan should be ahead of them for consistently being the better team over the last month of the season. I thought one of the big draws of college football was that "every game matters", not just the last.

I'm going to guess that the Michigan-Georgia line is pretty small: Something like Georgia -3
Alabama should be a heavy favorite: -13.5 or more

The weird thing about Cincinnati is that they tend to play better against better teams (the TV announcers talked about why this was last night). Their only loss in the last two years is to Georgia by a field goal. And Alabama should have lost twice this season, so they're beatable. -13.5 I'm probably sticking with Alabama but if you gave me -21 I'd take Cincinnati in a heartbeat.

Doesn't matter how you rank them anyway. Michigan is going to get their heads kicked in by either SEC team, just like whoever else they arbitrarily decide to throw in there. Let 'em have their paper #1, everyone knows they aren't backing it up on the field.

2021-12-05 11:28:44 AM
Still think the simple rule should be if you don't win your conference you can't play for a national championship

Over ranking SEC teams every season helps. UGA's best victory is over.... Kentucky? Are you still impressed?

Otoh, Notre Dame knew when they refused to join a conference that not making the playoffs because of one loss was a distinct possibility. Had they played and won the ACC championship game and had only one loss on the season, they would be in. Notre Dame has buttered their bread, now they can sleep in it.
CFB isn't playing by the "everybody else + special consideration for Notre Dame" rules any longer. Join a conference, ACC, Big 10, SEC, Big 12. One loss and a championship game win in any of those leagues gets ND in.

The SEC Championship was like The Waterboy, except Kirby Smart hasn't figured out how to turn Nick Saban into a puppy.

Then you have to blame coaching. Others have mentioned UGA scheduling.  Bama had 400+ yards of offense in the first half. Saban should be brought up on hazing charges for spanking Kirby soundly in front of 65K fans and national TV.

This Michigander living in Georgia is looking forward to the ass kicking they'll put on the Dawgs. Clemson was their best win, ffs. The SEC is weak.

You absolutely blame coaching, that's the takeaway here. Georgia has every concievable financial, structural and scheduling advantage. And the penalty for getting boatraced in your conference championship game (that qualifies as a defacto home game to boot) is not only getting to duck the team that just whaled on you in the final, but get the preferred matchup for them against run heavy Michigan. This is the argument for going back to a two team playoff.

It is amazing the gaslighting the SEC of which the SEC had bulldozed America with. Most of the SEC is garbage. The SEC has pretty much been riding Alabama's coattails now for years.
