F*cking idiots.

My county hospital is full, and has been since last year. Now everybody has a relative who's died, and people (Mormons) are anti-vax.

I got my booster shot two days ago. First two were AZ, booster was Pfizer. Anecdotally mask wearing in shops is way up. People are cautious, but not panicking. As TFA said the Omicron variant is far more transmissible but appears to be far less serious in effects.

But maybe we should be panicking....

I'm actively pleased the more antivaxxers die. The more of them die the safer small children and cancer patients are from their viral pool.

It isn't funny. I remember Republican opponents bragging about their long vacations elsewhere when the vaccines came out and when the schools opened.

We have greedy ,a-hole , selfish scumbags in our population with not many good people worth noting.
A few of us on here said we would still wear a mask and Biden Bros flipped out.

Yes a problem is that people arent getting vaxxed, but the article is right that probalby the bigger problem is that we haven't been giving the vaccine enough to the underdeveloped world.  Even if we can't get herd immunity in many places, the more jabs in arms globally, the better.

The best vaccination rate in subsaharan Africa is in S. Africa at ~25%. In fact that is the 3rd best rate in all of Africa, behind Morocco at ~61% and Tunisia at ~44%.

Yeah the GQP has politicized this thing. Fark 'em. Give the shots to everyone else worldwide to slow this thing down.

2021-12-04 10:41:37 PM
It would be great if omicron blazed through the population with mild symptoms leaving immunity in it's wake.

But I don't think we're that lucky.

If History is still a subject taught in schools in 30 years, the story of a political party killing themselves in delusional defiance of medical science to own the libs is going to be unbelievable. The right wing survivors will be fighting this part of History, known as Critical Stupidity Theory, from being taught to their children. They might feel bad because so many of their aunts, uncles and grandparents were lost to the Great Stupidity.

2021-12-04 10:41:46 PM
On the plus side, we're really advancing the vaccine making industry.  And slowly working our way through stupid people.

On the minus side, lots of collateral damage.

I feel like this could be worth it on a grander scale if it makes countries realize that the world is interconnected and we can't leave poorer nations to fend for themselves.  Unfortunately, that would require killing off the stupid people at a far greater rate than the virus is doing, and there will always be more stupid people being born, so a long term benefit in saving lives is, in my opinion, improbable.

This is absolute proof that in today's world you must have an integrated national healthcare system that is as effective as a well tuned military.

It doesn't seem to be affected by the same antibodies.

Which makes me wonder what happens if someone has Omicron and say Delta at the same time.

Apparently there is worry that an interaction between covid and AIDS results in more covid mutations. But if course we never took AIDS seriously enough either.

I don't believe it right now.  I mean, obviously I believe it because even here in Canada we have anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers linking arms in public demonstrations of their beliefs.  Seriously, they literally gather and shout at traffic... it's crazy.

These people shouldn't exist - I don't mean that in a genocidal way, I mean I don't fully understand how they have been able to become who they are in the first place.  You'd think they'd long ago have been so marginalized for their stupidity that they'd have learned to comply or been unable to find work or a place to live.  But instead of that, there are enough of them to be a political problem rather than a slight increase in the jail population.

Oh, so it's not even half-time.
And it's not even one game.
It's a whole farking tournament.
Matter of fact we've barely started the season, haven't even seen the tournament.
And every other game we play is against either the Chicago Black Sox, New England Patriots, Houston Astros
And all games are officiated by NBA refs.
With the whole season arranged by FIFA.

If that analogy sounds about right, I think I can guess what's gonna happen.

The history of viral disease in humans tends towards viruses becoming less deadly over time. Evolutionarily speaking, "successful" viruses don't kill their hosts. This is generally truer of respiratory type viruses than sexually transmitted ones too because they spread faster and more widely and thus evolve faster. But that's a generalisation, who knows how this specifically plays out here.

Omnicron may be a step in this direction. Or it may not, it's too early to say.

As soon as they allow vaccines for infants I'll be cheering this news. As it stands, this farks over me and plenty of good friends of mine.

It's a shame the mutation can't be near-instant death for all plague rats over the age of, say, 20, who don't have the vaccine. Save us on the costs of healthcare and eliminate their stupidity from the gene pool.

2021-12-04 11:29:41 PM
I love how people can say anything they want as long as they qualify it with words like could or might.

If a frog had wings, he might not bump his arse every time he hops.
