I saw his previous Ill-Advised vanity tour (with Emo opening) and it was awesome. Great low-key performance, different setlist every night, and closed each show with a different cover song (not parody).  He actually posted the entire tour online and I still listen to some of the shows now and then.

I met him many years ago.  One friend had him sign a can of SPAM, another delivered a funky Twinkie weiner dog for him.

He turned down the Twinkie dog sadly, but a really nice guy!

I went to a Weird Al concert when I was like 8.  I don't think I'd have as much fun as an adult because I still consider it music for kids.

Weird Al is a satirist for my generation like Tom Lehrer was before.  I first heard "Another One Rides The Bus" when it debuted as an unreleased tape on Dr. Demento.

It's actually still awesome as an adult. I've seen one "normal" performance and one from the ill-advised tour. They're were both a good time.

Not just a great satirist for multiple generations at this point, but also one of the most criminally underrated backing bands in music.

Al recorded it in a bathroom at his high school because it had the best acoustics. It's just him and his accordion.

Haven't been to a Weird Al concert in ages, so this could happen.  Wife is Gen-X and tone-deaf, might be a hard sell.

"Yoda" was also an unreleased tape for a very long time, but I'm not sure if that was the one that got him a record contract. It was wildly popular an if IIRC, it hit #1 on the Funny Five on Dr. D the week after it debuted. Stayed #1 for a while, too.

As and 8yo I doubt you'd would have understood the subtle genius that is Weird-Al especially in his deeper cuts beyond his better known parodies.   He's not for everyone but I do recommend going to back and give him a good listen...especially to his 80's and 90's albums.

Nirvana has said that they felt that they had finally made it when Al requested permission to record "Smells Like Nirvana". Kurt, who was becoming jaded and humorless as time went by said he laughed his ass off when he saw the music video.

Mr. Bobug and I went a couple of years ago, more from a nostalgia sense, than expecting to enjoy it... and we had a blast. He gives a good show, with a live band. And stage presence with real singing and audio goes a long way.

I've had YouTube suggested links pop up lately saying I could watch it for free (with ads).

I did that recently with Beavis and Butthead Do America, if you have a decent adblocker you don't even get the ads.

He didn't become a vegetarian until the 90s.

It was the early nineties that I met him.  To be quite honest, the hot dog wasn't cooked, and the Twinkie had spray cheese on it...I would have passed as well!

It's supposed to have spray cheese on it. That's just how it's done.

I am going to the Paramount in Cedar Rapids. I swear the Paramount website said Dec. 10, but I will check.

Wanted to see the last one, but couldn't go for three different reasons. Looks like he'shiatting a lot more stops this time, so I should be able to go to one.

Took Mr. Draggin to the last one. I had no idea what to expect. It was easily the best concert I've ever been to. And since it was in Santa Fe, which is near Albuquerque, he did a cover of Sweet Home Alabama as a fake out before launching into a another short fake out and then a very long version of Albuquerque. However, I was extremely glad I wore earplugs. It was a rock concert and it had the volume level of a rock concert, adjusted slightly for a small theater.

Anderson's Pooper: He's playing at the Ryman?  For some reason I find that really funny.

He's closing out the tour at Carnegie Hall.

Saw this tour and the Strings Attached (amazingly great!), so while I'm a bit surprised he's going back to this format I also think his originals have held up even better than most of the parodies so yeah... I'm going again.

2021-12-05 12:20:32 AM
I went to his last tour when it came through.  It's an awesome time that's only made better by the crowd.  Everyone is nice and in a good mood.

Highly recommended unless you hate fun.

A consummate performer, matches James Brown for HWMISB. Clever, funny, nice guy. First concert I took my kids to, but I've gone to see him by myself as well.

A buddy and I were on the road travelling to an even that got cancelled as we arrive. Too late to drive all the way home, we got a fleabag motel room with separate beds and it looked like the entire trip would be  a disaster... but I was able to rent UHF, which he'd never seen. We both worked in TV production at the time.  Weird Al saved that road trip.

2021-12-05 7:48:22 AM
I went to both the first vanity tour and Strings Attached so I'm hoping to hit this one too. He'll be at Art Park which is a good 40 min drive for me but I know it'll be worth it.
