You can support the devs by backing them and calling out the unacceptable working conditions they have been dealing with.

My habit of not caring about awards shows is certainly coming to a middle.

Is the award strictly for game companies? Because if not, John Cena retains the title for his groveling apology to China for daring to acknowledge Taiwan as a country.

Sexual harassment doesn't leave much room for nuance. Having the company involved in the ceremony puts you on the side of sexual harassment, as far as appearances go.

Giving a wish-washy quote to Kotaku sure isn't going to change that. Preceding their appearance during the ceremony with a full-throated condemnation might, but then it becomes reaaaaally awkward.

Awkward, sure. For most people, it would be a major career risk to take a stand. Geoff Keighley has enough industry cred at this point (and the VGAs are well established enough), that if he took a stand, it's more likely to get the Activision board to act than it is to do much damage to himself or his career.

He's in a position where he could actually have an impact with minimal risk himself.

This! The opinion of people paid to blow smoke up the game industry's ass should not be considered important. You would betray the meaning of credibility to give it much weight.

In my younger years I've been passively involved in stupid things.

Being on an email chain where people rated the new intake of college grads was, well it was distasteful but I wasn't going to make a fuss cause I will 1 year removed from being a college grad myself.

But this is just scumbag behavior

/My training contract out of college was 3 years
//A few months after that someone in a different accounting firm sent those emails to a friend at a newspaper and all hell broke loose
///Respect to that person

In hindsight, the one time I took a stand and made a complaint about a client we took on (a gambling site heavy with Russian mob influence and later at the center of a massive cheating scandal), compliance and internal audit told me to shut the fark up and never repeat that.

But by that point I'd resigned and what the fark did I care

It's a show that hands out trophies to video games while showing ads for new video games.
Did we expect some kind of principled stance against sexism?
Did any of the high-faluting game blogs refuse to review the latest Diablo remake?

//There's still a Game Awards show?
//The only time this sad hourlong commercial was watchable was when they hired Jeff from Community and he roasted them the entire time
//and even then i just watched the supercut on youtube

But it might slightly reduce the revenue that his Game Ads show will receive.

Come on. Anybody who's played an RPG in the last 15 years knows that if you don't pick paragon/renegade, the game just picks a side for you.

No, it was before.  That was the same year Comedy Central gave him a stand up special and John Stewart practically fellated him on the daily show.

The joke was about the garish room decoration resembling a Cosby sweater.

Just saying: "spineless" has to be reformulated to acknowledge Mike Pence somehow. I'll leave how to cleverer people than me.

The virile and powerful Mike Pence was an absolute terror to his enemies, whom he could effortlessly reduce to spineless quivering puddles with just a single devastating glare.

/no, I don't believe any of that either. The guy was a worm. I just felt like being obnoxious.

"The Game Awards" are just a long advertisement anyway. There's no way anyone associated with it would be critical of the industry.

most of the rank and file that work in the industry pretty much ignore it, these awards go generally to whoever has biggest marketing spend.

We pay more attention to the peer voted stuff like the Game Developer's choice Awards.

(Not that you complain when you win things of course, but we don't lose sleep over Geoff's advert show)
