He didn't seem to think leaving it parked in front of a hydrant for four days was a big deal, so yes, he's extra douchey.

During the summer, it's okay if I park my Jeep next to a fire hydrant because the top is off and I have low-profile doors.

/Kidding.

Friend of mine claimed he saw this happen in San Francisco.  BMW was parked at a hydrant, fire department did this, running their hoses through the car.  Those hoses/fittings are not necessarily the tightest either, interior of the car got absolutely drenched.  When the owner finally approached after the fire department had packed up the police officer standing next to it looked at him and simply said, "it's impounded."

Meaning it went to an impound yard, wet inside with windows that couldn't close, in a city with pretty nasty weather at times, probably out at the waterfront on land that the city had obtained cheap after the commercial wharves saw a reduction in business at the port.  That car was FARKED.

2021-12-03 6:35:11 PM
After reading this article, I just about spit my caviar out at the audacity of the fire department for damaging another person's property. This kind of thuggery can not exist in a civil society. That's why I'll be taking my yacht to the Maldives this winter, away from all this barbarism.

Got to keep the line straight, they cannot risk a kink developing in the hose. The fluid must flow.

That would seem to be a really stupid move from the car manufacturer's point of view.
FWIW, some cars like the toyota Prius have a miniature physical key inside the fob, in case the battery dies on you:

Are you sure? It's not obvious on my Honda but there is a mechanical key inside the fob and a covered lock on the driver's side door handle. Once you're inside there's a passive RFID sensor to start the engine.

Eh. It's just windows.
What they should do is ram it out of the way with the fire truck. Give him few grand worth of bodywork to fix instead of a few hundred for new windows.

Would it really work that way? With the exception of mechanical failure causing a crash, crashes involve the person at fault breaking the law. They get their cars paid for minus the deductible.

Well that guys a douche.

Also I still owe the city of Bozeman 100 bucks for parking within 5 ft of a hydrant... when it was on street parking for a massive retirement home. Only place to fit and carry in 100 lbs of tools. All other hydrants? The curb is painted. That one? Nope.

He was trying to jimmy the door open when his friend told him "Hurry up. The top's down and it's starting to rain!"

I think you should also clarify, the mechanical key on the Prius is also to open the door if the car battery is dead so the car can be jump started.

I come from a family of NYFD fire fighters and NYPD cops. My dad talked about doing that and we always had a good laugh. Sometimes he and his Men would "accidentally" fill the car with water. Any aragent ass wipe that blocks a hydrant gets what he deserves. It's people like these that endanger lives.

2021-12-03 7:18:30 PM
and another reason I think it's just a repeat from another angle. Because no BMW douchebag driver drives a 15 year old BMW.

/fta said it was a 2005 BMW.

2021-12-03 7:18:39 PM
The hydrant in the picture has two outlets that are angled away from each other.  The left hose is angled towards the front of the car, and could easily be attached without any inconvenience.  The right hose, however, is angled towards the rear of the car, and would have kinked up if placed over the hood, or would have added an extra dozen feet of distance that it needed to clear.  There is no way they could have hooked that hose up without a problem either way.
"They f**k up my car and it is going to cost me a bag of money," he said. "I am stressed. They didn't have to do that!"

Yes.  Yes they did.

Sometimes you have to pop off the plastic cover by the door handles to find the mechanical lock.
There's normally a way to get into the car without breaking anything even if the battery is dead. But, it is BMW so might be goofy.

At the end of the day they could have gotten a battery for the fob.

I can't wait to get rid of my BMW. It's no better than our Toyota getting us where we need to go, I don't enjoy driving it, depreciation is crap, and repairs are expensive. I'll never buy another. And because of other BMW drivers, I feel like a jerk each time I drive it.
