London Broil isn't a fancy cut, but it can actually be pretty good if you do it right. You just have to get a thick one, lay into it with a meat mallet a few times then marinade it in something vinegar-heavy for a few days before you throw it on the grill, and make sure to cook it to medium a little on the slower side after you sear it.

I like fancy steak too, but there are reasonably tasty way to prepare most cuts, and a big London Broil weighing several pounds is a relatively cheap way to serve beef if you've got a bunch of kids.

They look like wood chips.

If I had done that to a steak I got from the local farm, I would become a vegetarian for the rest of my life to atone for my sins. And that's after my wife (who actually IS a vegetarian, but makes exceptions for non-pork that is ethically sourced) divorces me.

It's also a fantastic cut for cheap jerkey. The fat makes if take longer... but in the end you get this amazing caramelized kinda crispy kinda chewy fat and if ya dehydrated it thick enough, you end up with a pink center that's mostly dehydrated and will still last a good week or 2 of hiking.

Sure it takes more time... but the different textures and flavors make it worth the time and the much lower shelf life.

London broil isn't much of a grill cut, it's a pan fry/pan sauce cut. You sear it, stick it in the oven and make sauce w/ the frond.

Damn, I haven't seen a real cobbler for a long time! (those look like the strips they tack onto your soles when you have heavy wear spots)

I mean, eat what you want, but maybe not share it with the world...
Reminds me of the time someone shared a recipe with me of the best soup they make. I was a can of this, a can of that, etc... not a single ingredient didn't come out of a can.
I use canned ingredients often enough, but not in entirety!

Hey now, don't crap on london broil... it is a prefectly decent cut if you a) get a good one, and b) can cook.
I buy them all the time, and consistently get good results grilling them.
Of course it isn't anything like a ribeye or whatever, but in all honesty, I like really lean meat, and surprise, it's far healthier.

I have a LB in the fridge right now, $4/lb, so $10 for 2.5lbs. My wife and I will incorporate that into meals for 1/2 of the week.

Here is an awesome marinade... they call it a slow cooker sauce (and it does that well), but I also use it to marinade and grill with. https://www.latortillafactory.com/product/barbacoa-slow-cooker-sauce-starter/

A lot of the reason I try to be a better cook is to be able to make good food out of less expensive ingredients. Anyone can do something good with a prime aged ribeye. I want the skill to make something delicious out of that shiatty cut.

At my restaurant we served London Broil, but it was flank steak.  We would coat with Montreal Seasoning  and sear it on the grill.  Then it was then cut thin to order, grilled for a few minutes on each side and served with a splash of brown gravy.  It was fabulous.

Sorry if that came across as pretentious. I use London broil and the cheaper cuts for a lot of meals. The tenderizer makes those cuts incredibly versatile. That's basically the only "steak" my parents could afford growing up. It goes great in a ton of stuff.
