Something we all know. Cannabis stinks.

...these compounds might have potential health benefits, including anticarcinogenic properties and improved cardiovascular health.

There's your cure for cancer, subby.

I like the smell of cigars, cannot stand the smell of weed or cigarettes.

A couple of years ago my dog got sprayed by a skunk at my apartments. The next day there were notes on all the doors in my building because someone had complained about a strong smell of marijuana.

When I was working in the fruit orchards in the south Okanagan I was sure I could smell an outdoor grow somewhere along my route. My coworkers were sure I was just smelling one of the many skunks that live in the orchards.
Finally one day, when I had a bit of free time while on my route, I took a quick snoop around the orchards with the funny smell and found the source. A family of skunks living in a patch of marijuana. LMAO

Don't stinkscriminate against me. I put up with everyone smoking cigarettes around me for 20 years.
If I like huffing skunkbutt, it's my own business.

They were smoking it?

As a kid many people would try to grow it in the forest where we would like to play. I developed a severe dislike for weed because of those people and their boobytraps.

Wasn't even the plants fault, just the idiots associated with it.

"Skunk or weed" used to be a fun game to play in the summer.

I've noticed that since decriminalization, and especially after legalization, people are definitely smoking higher quality bud.

Most street/dispensary weed hasn't smelled like skunk in ages. At least those strains are still being cultivated and haven't been paraquatted out of existence, so their potential benefits can still be studied.

The smell of cannabis is why I don't like overly hops-y beers.

Cancer was cured yesterday, subby.  Someone figured out it needs a specific gene to spread, but a lack of that gene doesn't seem to be a problem.

Research continues into how to turn off that gene with a pill.

this is not news.  these compounds have been known about in cannabis for years.  I have GCMS data right in front of me that has them detected and identified.

maybe no one has bothered to publish because for most food/flavor chemists this is a "duh".

The local university has an experimental farm here. It used to be out in the country, but is now surrounded by the city; there's a mall and a Walmart across the road, now.

They started growing various hemp strains this year. Everytime I drive past it smells like a phish concert...

I don't smoke weed because I can't stand the smell. That's why I only smoke coffee and buttered popcorn.

It's weird how everyone has different reactions to different smells.

I've also read that smell is linked to better long-term memory than any other sense.

Yeah, it is odd how one person can find a scent wonderful and another person can't stand the smell. We humans are an odd species. Your sense of smell can be a powerful memory trigger.

Different strokes for different folks.

I love the smell of cigars that other people are smoking, much less so for ones that I smoke myself.

Except for the "cheese" strains, I love the smell of weed, including the skunk, chemical, and diesel strains.

With a few exceptions, I love the smell of pipe tobacco blends.

I was a three pack a day smoker for 30 years and stopped cold turkey. Now, a very few cigarette blends smell attractive to me, most are "meh" to "mild bleeech" and a few, such as Marlboro and Camels, are gagtastic abominations. But then again, I hated the smell of Marlboro and Camels back when I was a three pack a day smoker, so there's that.

Smells are complicated. "they" say that dogs -- whose sense of smell greatly exceeds ours -- see the world, including time, in a very different way than humans do.

There's a CBD farm I always roll the windows down when I pass.
Of course that's fresh, and my homegrown is nice too.
It has to do with the curing.

Skunk is a particular strain  skunk #1 to be exact. It gets crossed but not every strain smells like skunk.
Orange is a pretty common one

I've always liked the way gasoline smells, but only the faintest of scent. It reminds me of my dad, he had a gas station and he would take us to work with him sometimes. I loved washing windshields, I had a milk crate to use to make me tall enough and the customers were always so sweet to me. There is a wonderful little bundle of memories I get when gassing up my car or catching a light whiff of gasoline in the air because it reminds me of him.

Back in the day, Dad's station was full service when lots of places were phasing that model out. Dad said that was not how to run a good business. He said if he went to a restaurant and they made him cook he shouldn't have to pay for it and he wasn't going to make his customers do half the work for all the money they pay him.

It didn't use to. In fact, people called it the Sweet Smell of Prosperity in the '70s.  Even ten years ago, I thought the smell was far better than tobacco.

It smelt like a bums sock burning or a burnt socks bum.
Skunk is fine perfume by comparison.
