Having confidence in your cooking is just as important as your dish tasting good.yes criticism is important part of growth but just being a bell end without teaching what's wrong isn't a good thing.

This was my initial reaction too but I think it's more in fun than it first seems. I think the people who get told off for their food enjoy that they've been Gordon Ramsayed rather than get downhearted by the experience.

Ooooh thank you for posting that link! That video is hilarious. Well Farked.

But yeah, that grilled cheese looks terrible for reasons well explained in the video and the sight of Gordon's arteries popping in his head while he tries to squish his sandwich into his pan to get some heat somewhere near the cheese is going to stay with me for a long time.

It's like Don Rickles.
He started insulting hecklers, then people started heckling him because they liked the insults. He figured that out and now you're a hockey puck.
Some people will take great pride in being insulted by him.

I'm convinced that the people who like Ramsay's shows are literal masochists.

I'm sure he's a good chef (just from what I've read about him other than the tiresome insults he dishes out). Just have no interest in watching him yell at people. It's boring.

I mean, there are definitely people who need to be told their food is shiatty, but listening to the same person doing it over and over isn't entertaining. But hey, you do you, boo.

Yup.  A few years ago, Drew roasted me over a comment.  Lots of people were saying "You got pwned by Drew!"

But you know what? I felt kinda honored that he noticed my comment.

"Gordon Ramsey" is a TV character played by chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsey.  When he's out of character, he's much more likable.  He's a bit too Colonial on his Nat Geo show, but shows a genuine love for food and respect for guest chefs. He's a sweetheart on Master Chef Jr.  Much like Simon Cowell, he encourages and mentors the kids, so they can follow their dreams of getting yelled at on his adult shows.

While that is true, there is a difference between "Dad, I want Cantonese scrambled eggs" and "Dad, make me some eggs, in any style, as long as they're not like that egg pudding Gordon f*cking Ramsey made"

When he's not doing his Fix-the-broken-restaurant shtick he does some interesting things. A lot of his recipes are excellent, and I've learned a bit from watching him show them. His trip to South and Southeast Asia was wonderful, and it was interesting to see him as a guest in someone else's kitchen or home. A totally different person from his normal persona and a good guest who didn't pretend he knew how to cook the local cuisine better than the locals.

When he first came on the scene with his scream and swear routine, I was turned off.  But when I saw him on Master Chef, my opinion changed.  And his Nat Geo show is quite good.  I've even grown to be ok with the schtick he does on Hell's Kitchen.

You've cracked the code, bud. He uses the ultra-fake mean persona - the opposite of himself, perhaps - to spotlight the fallacy of reality TV.

Damn, here I was really hoping he lurked around here to catch my defense of him.

Ramsay's a twat. He comes across fine on certain shows, but his phony tough guy persona for American audiences just further perpetuates abusive behavior in high end restaurant kitchens. So fark him.

UK Kitchen Nightmares is an absolute joy to watch. He's just beyond charming, and so helpful to semi-pro chefs who just haven't the skills to run a restaurant on their own.

I was really confused the first time I saw the US version.

He'd yell, and get frustrated, but he was not abusive and callous on the UK show.

He does. One of his favorite things to say is "it takes a professional chef years to master this dish".
Bullshiat.

Now I may not be able to do a lot off the top of my head like him but if I had a recipe and instructions to follow, I could make anything he could make and do it just as well.
