This shocking news must mean that it is the year 2014 and we still have time to prevent a Trump presidency.

Was going to say this. I think it took about a week after redstone came out before the first calculator appeared. I know I remember seeing a Turing engine years ago.

Many long long lonely nights.. just like usual.

At least this is kinda productive.

I'm pretty sure I saw one like this ten or so years ago. Maybe not.

Now make a calculator in Minecraft that plays the original Doom and then you'll have something.

I can't imagine why anyone would do it. It's like building a settlement in Fallout 4. Yeah, it looks great... But it has absolutely no impact on the game and there are no stakes involved since the NPCs are all lifeless drones that can only respond to two different instructions.

I still build them, of course... But I realize it's an utterly pointless endeavor. It's not providing anything for anyone except a "sense of personal satisfaction" that I was able to build a halfway functional model out of my electronic LEGO blocks/action figures/model train set.

Minecraft is 100% about "build that thing in your head just for the fun of it".  There is no other real point to the game.  Sure there is a dragon you can slay, and a flying bomb throwing monster you can summon and kill that are kind of "bosses", but they aren't the point of it.

I haven't ever done proper circuitry with redstone in minecraft (I have spent many hours building castles, digging holes, etc), but I have used a silly phone app that lets you build with logic gates to build some memory circuits, counters, addressers etc, and used those to build a mix/demux circuit that can mux two nibbles of data together and then demux them back out again afterwards.

What was the point?  the act of just doing it was fun.  And I can show my other nerd friends that I have a mux and they can pat me on the back and say "good job, nerd"

An Enigma machine simpler than a calculator.

Now I'm wondering about implementing enigma in my circuits app...  It's really just a bunch of configurable patch panels between a keyboard and an array of bulbs.

My gaming group consist of four of us in our 40's.

One member started his own realm and after seeing them play for about a month I decided to join in a couple week ago.

It's a nice creative outlet and to quote my buddy when he came to see what I was working on "dude, my house is like efficient utilitarian and yours is like Frank Lloyd Wright.

It's fun.
