Pro-lifers pretend to care about babies because straight up hating on women went out of fashion.

2021-12-02 6:11:32 PM
If Roe vs Wade gets overturned, watch the crime rate go up in about 15 to 20 years when these unwanted babies get old enough to commit serious crimes. Also, watch mental health problems multiply too. The strain of raising unwanted children when you are poor and the children having it because they're abused.

It's not pro-life. It's just more punishment heaped on the masses that can't afford to go to another country to get one. And just for the cruelty of watching people suffer.

I don't disagree but I suspect way more abortions are for financially stable middle class women than you'd think.

Middle class women and their daughters will just get a plane ticket to a sane location. I imagine that there will be A LOT of medical tourists going to Canada, for example.

/ it will be the women who cannot afford that plane ticket that will be most impacted

What is your point?

Despite "not disagreeing" why highlight something so self-evident?

The importance aspect is still how this affects poor people.  Because rich people will never NOT be able to get abortions.  Ever.

The conception the pro-forced birth movement was to mobilize reactionaries against racial integration. White conservatives were pissed that the feds abolished tax breaks for racist institutions so they focused on organizing around a parallel issue that was more palatable to the masses.

I'm sure some states will try and make it a serious crime for residents, akin to traveling to commit sex crimes with minors.

It should never be left up to legislation.  It should be a right to control your own body.  This is going to be a patchwork disaster and who knows what shiat they'll pull at the federal level if the GQP is in charge.

The other thing he was right about is that they also want a lot of live babies to grow up to become dead soldiers.

Republicans only support the military when it comes to the companies making war materiel.  They're a lot happier for every soldier that comes back in a pine box.  They don't want to have to take care of those who come back maimed from the wars they want to send other to fight in.

There's an economic analysis that supports this. It looked at decreased crime rates in the late 90s or early 2000s and found at least some of it was thanks to abortion being legalized and society having fewer unwanted and damaged by abuse and/or the foster care system kids.

"Pro-life" is what the religious right latched onto after being openly racist went out of favor.  Segregation used to be their go-to wedge issue.  "If you don't vote for us, the blahs will move into your neighborhood and stink up your schools!"  That was how they got people on board with their otherwise wildly unpopular policies: tie them to something they could get single-issue voters on board with to hold their nose and vote for wealth redistribution to the rich and the gutting of workers rights as long as it meant "those people" stayed out of their neighborhoods.

But after segregation stopped being the winner it used to be, they had to come up with a new wedge issue.  Hey, how about baby murderers!  Yes, now if you don't vote for giving all our tax money to the rich, gutting of public infrastructure, and endless foreign wars, it means you want to murder babies.

The sucky thing is that it works.

This reminds me of the old canard about how the GOP will never outlaw abortion because it's their biggest political wedge issue. That ignores how easy it would be turn the message into "if the dems get elected they'll make it legal again". Dog caught the car but don't think it won't growl if you come near it's own wrecked mess.

Well hold on now. If the worst happens, and then a miracle happens some years down the line and the Democrats ever get control of both houses of Congress and the WH after 2024, couldn't they use these twisted justifications to make Universal Health Care a thing?

// they could, for as long as it takes for a Court full of bozos who make Clarence Thomas look like a garrulous bleeding heart to write an opinion that says "well ackshally, the Feds can't force anyone to do health things other than keep pregnancies, based on this reading of the Constitution they took as Gospel at Federalist gatherings for decades that we're going to write into law to make the REAL kind of precedent"

Not to mention....

If they have the power to withhold a lifesaving medical procedure, for there are many medical problems that may occur during a pregnancy that will kill the mother....

Why wouldn't they be able to withhold lifesaving procedures in other instances?

Aight. This is like the weakest sauce in the store. But just for funsies I'll throw you one for nothing.

How old are you? Did you (and your parents, if they bothered to) celebrate your birth date, or your viability date, or your fertilization date?

Is anyone holding funerals for the 10-15% of pregnancies that end in miscarriage?

fark that. Is anyone holding funerals for the ~50% of fertilized eggs that fail to implant and end up in a tampon?

I'll end this post with my sincerely held belief: may Darwin protect us from the ignorant, the willfully ignorant, the trolls, and the morans.
