Jack Reacher Round 2 seems like a missed sequel title opportunity.

If there is anything we need more of in this nation it is entertainment geared toward mullet-headed man babies who feel punching things is best solution to any problem. It's not as if most of them don't already see most of life's problems as nails and they are the hammer-wielding arbiters of solutions. If America needs more of any one thing it's inspiration for more farking morons to go out to try and solve issues with violence and clever puns to go with it.

I mean, yeah... but... that point would land harder if the GD source material featuring said mullet-headed large punching-man weren't so farking popular.

Basically you're asking for a different show.  To which I say "You should watch something else".

The actor is only 6'2" but they're trying REALLY hard to make him look taller.

Every other actor in frame with him is significantly under 6', and most of the shots are from a low angle.

Whomever made that trailer knew exactly what power fantasy they're selling.

There are more than a thousand movies and TV shows released every year.
How about instead of crying that nobody uses their words, just find something else?

2021-12-02 6:15:30 PM
One, I loved the first Reacher movie and thought the second one was decent enough.
Two, Tom Cruise may not have fit the physical description of the character in the books, but he sure came across like a bad ass not to be trifled with
Three, Tom Cruise is, I dunno, an actor who can recite lines as if he's, I dunno, acting.
Four, based on that trailer...well, we will have to wait and see about this guy
Five, I hate the music in the trailer
Six, this looks much more pedestrian than the first Cruise/Reacher movie

Seven, since it's on Prime, and we are members. at least it won't cost me a dime to find out if it's as bad as it looks from the trailer.

"I'm Sandy."
"So was I."
"????"
"Last week...On a beach."

"Hey, that's our sister."
"She a good kisser?"

"You should pay your check now."
"I'll pay later."
"You won't be able to."
"Ya think?"
"All the time...you should try it."

It would be easier to ignore it if it didn't seem like every capitol rushing idiot, grocery store clerk insulter, pushy piece of shiat wasn't fueled by this kind of dogshiat entertainment. I'd like to ignore it and pretend the plethora of violence in America isn't fueled by this garbage but i can't.  But enjoy it if you like...and I will comment on anything I like as well. Especially in a public forum.

He knew how to play a badass in Collateral.
I never got people's obsession with the character's height. It might be the author's preference, but page and screen are two very different things.

If someone towers over everybody else, it doesn't make a lot of the conflicts believable. A group of drunk townies weren't going to rush someone who's built like The Rock.

He's the right size, but his acting skills aren't on par with Cruise's. Cruise at least sold unbridled menace even though he's a tiny man. This guy doesn't seem to sell it.

I always thought Geoff Stults would be a good choice. He's got the gorilla arms, he looks rougher than this guy, and anyone who has seen the sadly one season of "The Finder" knows he's a good actor.

Gorilla arms:

Putting a pretty boy on the screen isn't better. Reacher is roughly hewned and bulky.

More like a War Zone era, 6'3", Ray Stevenson.

Doesn't seem that hard. You could do that at a high school production of one of the books.

Yes.  Lee Child is on record as saying he designed Reacher as an "overdog", as an alternative to the rash of "underdog heroes".  He specifically wanted to explore a story about someone who as obviously an overwhelming force in any confrontation.

It does affect the story.  Even when the two Cruise movies were visually pretending he was a big guy (putting him on appleboxes relative to the crowd, etc.), both screenplays constantly have people underestimating his physical abilities - Which was exactly the opposite of what Child was going for.  In the books, opponents are deferential before physical confrontations, but consistently underestimate his powers of observation and deduction.

If Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher had been some other character, the movie might have been more popular because it is a good film.

I prefer the Korean method, whereupon someone emotionally incapable of living in the world is found screaming and yelling in the street before getting chased down by hell demons and turned into a red smear amongst smoldering bones to the horror and trauma of onlookers.

He also probably didn't anticipate having to stretch that gimmick out for 20 odd books either.

Really liked the first Jack Reacher movie. I liked how well it handled "Joes vs Pros". I know I saw the second one but, honestly, can't remember anything about it. I'll check out the Amazon series but WHAR UPLOAD SEASON TWO?!?!?!

2021-12-02 10:24:21 PM
Two things:

1. I'll give it a fair try by watching the whole thing... but from the preview, this guy's acting is pretty sketchy.

2. Time to retire "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" from film soundtracks.

And FFS, how good do you need to be to play Reacher? He's like Batman, ostensibly the smartest guy in the room, yet just punches every problem. The books are trash, and half the fun is Child's complete ignorance of the military and firearms (and all other forms of human interaction honestly), despite those things being the heart of every plot.
