I am interested in the Occulus from a professional point of view, but I cannot get past the fact that it is a Facebook product.

Lots of great VR products out there that aren't smothered in Facebook stink.  I still have the original Vive set, and it is still pretty great.  I've heard the new Valve Index is really nice as well.

I have the original oculus and I guess I'll stay with it for awhile because if I were to get the second one I would need a Facebook account. Fark that.

Can't wait for the collective "meh" from society about The Metaverse ®. The sooner it goes the way of 3D and/or curved TVs, the better.

If Facebook has a hand it in, I don't want anything to do with it.

From a professional point of view, the only really viable go-to-market right now is Occulus. Companies wouldn't sign off on any other system that does not have the visibility and marketing of the FB shiat, sadly. Not to mention I haven't been able to talk to the new developers I was introduced to, but I am guessing they prefer the Occulus (as my previous did as well).

What the shiat? That's beyond stupid.

I still believe that VR / AR headset will never take off beyond a very niche appeal.

Despite all the money and marketing that promotes something new every five years, the fact remains that few people want to wear stupid shiat on their faces.

"Gargoyle" was the term used in Snow Crash, the book that "Metaverse" itself comes from

I guess fark the Pico Neo Pro, the HTC Focus Plus, the HTC Flow, the Mirage Solo, the XTAL, the Vajro XR3, the Lynx R1, the StarVR One, and about two dozen other XR headsets that are Not. Farking. Facebook. that exist on the open market and support OpenXR standards.

But, what the fark do I know... I've only been successfully developing B2B/Enterprise grade VR applications since 2015.

It's not up to me, it's up to the clients. I can only present the options and they can choose.

Sounds like you should look up how consulting works and ask what I actually do before spouting off the dumbest farking comment I've read on Fark this year.

Moron.

Aww, did I hit a nerve?  You're the one who can't seem to make a case for a better product to your supposed clients.  You can't even be bothered to spell 'Oculus' properly, and I'm willing to bet that's a good reflection on how much effort you put into 'consulting' for the suckers you rope in as clients. You suck at your job.

Meanwhile I have a successful business running in the black in the middle of a pandemic and supply chain issues.

There's only one moron in this conversation, and it's not me.  That upsets you, feel free to eat a dick about it.
