Leading the calls for Bieber to cancel is Hatice Cengiz, fiancee of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, whose 2018 murder inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul prompted international outrage.

I would add that to the, things I don't want to hold my breath waiting for.

FFA: Rather than accept criticism and act on it, he said he expected Saudi Arabia to continue to use its tremendous oil wealth to attract sports and celebrities.

Well...um...yeah.  Saudis gonna Saudi. So, *shrug* I guess that's it.

Oppressive regimes often use sports to give them the veneer of normalcy they never could have otherwise

Yeah. I mean I'm sure Jamal was cool and whatever but we are talking, like, a pallet of cash. Wrapped in plastic probably.  You go Biebs!

Wouldn't it be "former fiancé?"

If he was gonna do the right thing he woulda said fark off right at the outset. At this point canceling now is kind of meaningless.

Complete sidenote: the series The Other Two, which is about a child influencer becoming a singer who can't sing all that well and is constantly mined for money by his family and industry associates, is hilarious.

S-load of money or cancel the show?
Hmmm... how long will the public have a fit? 3 months... maybe 6 months tops, then forget all about it because a different celebrity is on the front page...?
Worth it!

I'm a Beiber Boy in a Beiber world!
I like my cash, wrapped in plastic.

Surely sending Bieber to Saudi (or anywhere) is a gross violation of human rights in and of itself?

Exactly. The absolute worst thing will be afterward he (and by he I mean his PR person) releases a statement that he was unaware of issues there. He will going forward do better to educate himself. Let us all keep working for peace and freedom for all.

All while rolling around in millions of dollars.

Shoot...I could be his PR person for a lot less than whatever he's paying someone now.

Heh. If your activism depends on Justin Bieber to work against his own interests, you've already lost.

SirGunslinger: He is not just doing it for the money... He is doing it for a shiatload of money!

I'm listening to the audiobook of Billion Dollar Whale at the moment. A few hours in. The dude is from Malaysia, but a lot of the money came from Saudia Arabia. Holy shiat. So much money you can steal hundreds of millions from them without detection for extended periods of time. The money flows like oil.

American celebrities that took big checks from the guy: Paris Hilton, Decaprio, Jamie Fox, Britney Spears, and many more. Also, tons of American night clubs.

Some people figured the money wasn't his, but they still took the money. The guy provided a lot of the backing for Wolf of Wall Street. A lot of big names took some of the money.

A flat rip off of Malaysian tax payers, but that's the way it works, I guess. Socialism for the rich, dig around a dump for food for the rest of us...

It isn't a gross violation of human rights, and don't call me Shirley.

Meh, the people who care about Saudi human rights are not the people who listen to Beiber.

2021-12-01 5:06:16 PM
Protest the Beib? Sure why not. Just as soon as America stops buying Saudi oil.

/ I'll wait.

It's amazing that the little dimwit even NEEDED someone to tell him playing Saudi Arabia is a bad idea.  Heck, even playing Dubai is, and yes, even Israel.

It's a shame, but in the world we live in currently, no Western artists should be playing anywhere in the middle east.  Heck, probably not even for the USO anymore, as much of a shame as it is we've come to that point.

Or Russia.  Bad idea too.  As for China?  Appear at your own risk of it being weaponized.

I really hope there's a Bieber shiatstorm right now just to stick it Tim's for picking such an asshole as a representative. Maybe they can have Jared Fogle do some ads from his prison cell next.
