I've flown over the entirety of Floriduh, north to south, and vice-versa, many times. It is literally flat as a pool table that got trapped under a pavement roller. How is it that they need a road that corkscrews?

/ Oh, Floriduh

FTA:"the 46-year-old lost control of the pickup truck he was driving when he ran off the road"

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing he lost control before he went off the road.

I feel like the headlines kind of undersell what happened here.

When I was a military brat in Scotland, we lived off-base ("on the Economy") in a town in Turnagain Lane, because when you entered it you had to turn, and then you had to turn again. I loved the name and the logic.

What I hated were the lack of house-numbers because every house was named. I know now names are optional (kinda) in the UK but back then every street had a Rose Cottage, they weren't in alphabetical order, and the hardest job must've been postman, trying to remember which house was where. Ours was owned by a farmer who named it after his farm: Scrubble Hole Cottage, Turnagain Ln. At least it wasn't Rose Cottage.

It's made me name my homes. Strong Rock, Storm Hill, Uncle John's, Jerkinhead  (named after the roof), The Swale, The Lots, Camelback (a bridge, as soon as you got to the top of the bridge, you saw my house), Channelview, etc .., but if it was part of a planned subdivision HOA, I just called it that, like Cambridge or Marina Park. It already had a name. I've moved a lot in my life as a military brat & military myself. Hubby's favorite was Storm Hill, named because it seemed to be a gathering point for them. My custom: live there a year, then have a party on the 1st anniversary to announce the name.

If that dude had any kind of luck, he got thrown clear and died from the impact, because the alternative is he got turned into chunky salsa and they're attempting ID through dental records because that's all they could pry from the passenger compartment.

Corkscrew Swamp is why. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corkscrew_Swamp_Sanctuary I's actually pretty cool, if you like ecology.
